a friend of mine in London who has been in a wheelchair most of his life was approached by a bible freak yesterday- they said "If you let Jesus into your life, you'd be able to walk"

he is a tough cookie and replied to them: "well if he's that good, ask him to make me walk now" and he wheeled himself off.

that made me very angry.

I've been asked several times whether I was willing to let God/Jesus into my life/heart/spirit. I reply that either is welcome to stop by any time they wish, and that the door will always be open for them. The inevitable response is that I'm being arrogant because I expect such personal attention.

You can't win with religious fanatics. You just can't. And frankly, if they're all going to heaven, I'd prefer to be quartered elsewhere, thank you very much.

I wonder if Jehovah's Witnesses go around ringing doorbells in heaven? And if so, do people let them in?

I have every respect for a person's religion, but that comment to my friend was so insulting....

yes it was and it shows the ignorance of some people and what they think their religion says. i agree, everyone has the right to their own faith, but at least understand what you believe in. i don't know of a single christian religion that really believes what that ignorant person said to your friend, but i do know of a few who would say the same thing. i feel very sorry for them when they reach old age and are struck with sime of the ailments that come with it, what will it do to their faith? what will it do to their self esteem? Your friend is a tough cookie, and i commend for keeping his head and understanding this person's foolishness.

I hate people like this. Religion is such a personal thing, but for your friend to be harrassed in such a way is shameful. We all have our own way of doing things, mine just happens to be bellringing because I like to be noisy about it, but I'd rather it was a tuneful-ish noisy than anything else....

...but to make promises that he can't guarantee to deliver....(only God can do that, and even then only if the conditions are right).....and just to get customers. Well, that just sucks.

Sorry!

Good for him, David! What a wretched thing to say to someone. I find it's best to ignore the thoughtless and clueless, especially since there will always be those types.

One of the young women who works for me is a JW. I have to say that she is a very sweet woman and is very well liked. The closest she's ever come to any sort of 'preaching' was giving an invitation and flyer promoting some Jehovah festival to one of our coworkers, another young woman, M, who happens to be East Indian and Hindu. I told M that the JW probably gets extra points for bringing a Hindu to the party.

The Morman gal I interviewed last week starts on Wednesday. She told the recruiter that she really liked me. hmmmmm wonder if she'll feel the same way when she finds out the truth about me.

The former clerk at the UPS office here was a JW and utterly hilarious. Her family had brought her up here from Florida, she once confided, because she was "getting kind of wild down there". I'd love to know what "wild" Jehovah's Witnesses do, but never had the nerve to ask.

With Gallagher, though, I do often wonder why the government does not employ them to deliver the mail.
