Today, for the first time since January 17, when I broke my shoulder, I played guitar again!

Just for about 15 minutes.. my fingertips are all soft again, but I played, and it felt grand! Played a few Kate Wolf tunes, and finished with I Hear You Sing Again.

I will now try to get back "in shape" by playing for a few minutes every night until fingers and shoulder are fit to "fiddle".

You go girl!

But out of personal curiosity - do you have full feeling in your fingers. I lost a lot of feeling (permanently) after my shoulder surgery and believe me, the guitar playing suffered.

Wonderful news, Amy--simply wonderful.

Leslie--I'm curious as to whether you mean any particular hand or both? I have next to no sensation in the fingertips on my left hand and it never bothered me any. But without a tactile sense in my right hand--forget it. I have never, for example, been able to play with fingerpicks.

Congrats on getting back into guitar-shape! Sounds like you have a sensible plan to build up your stamina, muscles, calluses (sp?), etc. When we have a NE Rudie reunion, you MUST bring your guitar and share a few tunes!

Keep it up!

Thanks y'all.

Leslie:

I do have full feeling everywhere but right around the incision on the shoulder. I am experiencing some forearm and upper arm pain from radial and other nerve irritation, but it is sporadic and should eventually subside completely.

My range of motion is still somewhat limited, but getting better bit by bit, and should recover fully as well.

Loss is in the outer 3 fingers of my left hand. With the style I play, this is a real hassle as my fingers can't "feel" where they are on the fret board and they now tend to "get lost". Kind of hard to explain, but things that were auto-pilot years ago I can barely play now and I have to literally watch my hand on the fret board on more complicated pieces.

But, I guess I shouldn't complain, the damage that was done could have left me unable to play at all.

Amy, full ROM can take quite a while, but it sounds like your surgery was very, very successful. I am so happy for you!
