I just found out that my oldest nephew (the guitar guy) is going to be a father!!!
That means my 'baby' sister is going to be a grandmother.

YIKES!!!!

I'm just looking forward to a new little one to spoil rotten. Suddenly the idea of going to Chicago for Christmas doesn't seem quite so out of the question.

Join the club, Dar.... I'm already a great auntie several times over, with another one on the way in September. Matthew and Fran tied the knot in 2002 (the wedding we went to Cornwall for) and now it's time to do what most married couples do when left on their own for any length of time ;) And we're still waiting on Isabel's baby which was due on the 17th... she was in labour last night but it came to nothing and she was sent home again. First babies are notorious in not doing as they're told straight away and are quite often late, so watch one of these spaces as I will post as soon as it happens :)

Getting back to the main point though, being a great aunt is marvellous fun and if you have them for the day, you can always hand them back at the end of that day, unlike your own. Second time around is always more fun than the first :)

Take care, my friend

One day at a time, Dar, one day at a time....

I'm an uncle and that's about as far as it's likely to go. But I do know the feeling.

Reminds me of an observation made my one of my favorite comedians, Rita Rudner. When her grandmother asked her "When am I going to be a great grandmother?" Rudner's response was, "I don't know, when you do something really exceptional, I suppose."

Enjoy it Dar! I have 17 nieces and nephews and one great nephew and great niece to date.

congratullations dar! here is a little known fact...neices and nephews and great neices and nephews have no effect on your age...so you are still very young. children on the other hand ... :)

I love Rita Rudner! She's a hoot.

Dar,

I know how you feel. *creak*

I've been a great uncle for two years now (or so they tell me). http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k267/deemark/Emoticons/newwink.jpg

I'm Grandma Darlene to four yr old Hale Girl. It's still not easy especially if you get a little angry and the little devil smiles at you and thinks grandma is making funny faces.
It is then time to take child back to Mommy and Daddy.
BUT I'M THE BABYSITTER AND GET PAID so I have to calm down and deal with the little smile and turn it into a sad face. I am so mean! But it's not good to smile at people who are angry at you. "How did I get here"? Oh no, my mind taking me places again.
Peace, Darlene

Hehe... all my cousins are younger than me, but that's the most experience I have with kids. It always scares me, though, when an Aunt has a new baby and suddenly goes, "Do you want to hold him/her? Here." Oy am I not used to babies...

But congratulations! Darn it this is my last year as a teenager. I refuse to feel old! At all!

Song, don't make me slap you. ;)

I love babies and children. I also love to give them back to their rightful owners. ;)

Andrea,
I can be your Auntie Dar......although I think I'm more the Den Mother type.

I think my nephews do consider me to be the 'cool' aunt. A couple of years ago the younger one asked me if I'd drive him to meet a friend so he could 'buy some weed'. I said, I'm flattered you think I'm that cool, but I'm not THAT cool.

how cool is this,
i'm the "cool aunt"
my two year old nephew ( i'm living at my sister's at this point) came up to me and put his little forearm against mine looking closely at the tattoo, and he said, "aunt Dew-ah i like your picture on your arm" ps you try pronouncing "Noel" at age two :)
