I just received a copy of Flight Simulator X as a gift. It's a quite worthy update to the last version, however, as many people have discovered, it will overwhelm the mightiest processor/memory/video card combination on earth if you turn the detail settings up too high. In my case, "too high" seems to be about a third of what the program is capable of reproducing.

I'm tweaking settings and hoping to find some sort of happy medium that I can live with, but meanwhile, the possibilities have me thinking of a hardware upgrade. I am currently running a dual-core Athlon 3800+ with 1 gig RAM and 256 MB integrated graphics (though I can add a video card--provided the power supply will handle it).

Anyone have any idea which would help more: a 512 MB graphics card or an additional 1 gig of RAM? Am strongly considering adding both.

RAM is cheap. Go for it. You won't regret it.

Given past experience with flight sim, i'd suggest buying the biggest video card you can afford. Extra system Ram will help some, but the graphic card is going to do more for your flight sim experience in the long run.

I'd pretty much decided on getting both....appreciate the input!
