Ghosts of JanisMania past

This afternoon, after Wendy and I had been to the auction, I took her to the Benedict Center, the site of JanisMania. I think we could still feel the Rudie vibes in those halls! Most of the rooms were locked, so we went to the office. I asked for Sister Joan, and we were told she might be resting in another building, and that she had just had surgery. I told them not to disturb her, but she was not resting, and she showed up as we looked around the gift shop. I told her that I had been to JaniMania, and that Wendy is here from Australia. We got hugs, and chatted for a few minutes. On Monday, Sr. Joan had othroscopic surgery on her right knee. She's doing very well! I told her that she's something of a legend on the MB. I had to laugh when she asked me if I am married. I told her I was, and she said, "Oh, I was going to ask if you wanted to become a nun!" LOL I wonder if it would matter that I'm not Catholic!

Wendy got to see many of the key areas from JanisMania, including one of the dorm rooms. While it was rather warm and humid, it was by no means as hot and steamy as that June weekend in 2004.

I really can't see you as a nun, Karen....though I'm sure you could stitch up a habit in short order.

Ah, those Catholic Girls' School dorm rooms with no air conditioning....still recall them....somewhat less than fondly.

I think you'd make a great nun Karen! You'd be the life and soul of the convent! You'd be like a white Whoopi Goldberg organising the choir and as Dave says you'd be sewing new habits or costumes for the performances. Yes, it is all becoming quite clear..........;)

Not done the seaplane to Paxos from Corfu. Always have too much luggage but told by friends that the view of the island is wonderful. Did you count all 500,000 olive trees?

Nice to see you, Wes. You were the first JanisManiac I encountered at the airport--my hat and guitar case sort of made me stand out, apparently. We were joined shortly after by Dar, who hung a "Rudie Express" sign on my case and took off in search of Marjan. The inmates were in charge of the asylum--and what a delight it was.

I'm surprised to learn that those poor nuns seem to have gotten over it rather nicely.

JanisMania is one of the things I really regret missing... It was just the summer before I joined the board, I believe.

Ah well... I should visit the site of it sometime. That would be neat. But I'd have to have someone tell me about it.
