Need help.... just got a new computer...

Does anyone have any idea how to get the music in your ipod BACK into itunes?
I'm so afraid to synchronize because my daughter did and lost her 3,000 plus songs! It synchronized her ipod to what was in her itunes library, which was nothing because it was gone with the old computer!.
So it wiped out her ipod clean!

I've been loading mine, for months, in preparation for my upcoming motorcycle trip. I have almost 800 songs so, for now, I'm not connecting it to my computer until after my trip.... just in case.
But when I get back I would like to figure this all out.

In the meantime, after a lot of tears, my daughter is now trying to download to itunes, all those songs she lost....up to about 1300 as we speak....!!!

Denise, I hope that software works for you. I'd be a little leery about using some non Apple approved software, but maybe I'm just paranoid.

I do not have my Ipod set up to automatically sync, for exactly that reason, I don't want to get screwed up. I hope you make backup CD's of whatever you buy through Itunes too!!

Denise:

I would generally agree with Dar on using non-mfg approved software...

But... BUT!!!

This product is AWESOME!!! I have used it myself, and it works great!
You can copy 40 songs for free with the eval version, and the product itself only costs $19.95 - and you can copy anything & everything. No quality is lost, no songs are lost, I can't say enough about it. It's GREAT!

My $0.02

Thanks a bunch... I'm afraid to try anything until after my road trip!!!
I bought the ipod for just that and don't want to lose anything.

But after the trip is over I will definitely be purchasing that product and using it so that I can get it all straightened out.

You were a great help!
And Michelle, I'll add my $0.02 when it's done!!!

I had that very same question just YESTERDAY.
Here's what I found online, cost-free:

I should say, it works beautifully if you want EVERYTHING. What's weird is that when you open up the desktop folder to find stuff, it's got odd names you won't recognize. But when you drag them into iTunes Music, they look normal again. There's probably some simple ways around this... perhaps rename specific songs while they're still in your iPod (from the computer) and put them at the top of the list, alphabetically. I think that might work.

Still, it's a handy thing for transfers and doesn't cost anything. It takes a while, depending on how much music you're tranferring. I haven't seen a solution that's as easy AS IT SHOULD BE...

Apple now supports moving at least the purchased contents back to a newly authorized computer. See this article http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-computer/P1

Do iPods work work with Windows Media?

I normally synchronise from my mp3 player to windows media and then iTunes seems to automatically copy them to itself. Don't know how it does that.

Might not be the same for iPods though.

Reading this thread makes me glad I didn't go for an iPod, but opted for this (http://www.sears.ca/gp/product/B000NPJMXS/sr=1-2/qid=1189587797/ref=sr_1_2/002-9357681-6678436?ie=UTF8&searsBrand=core&mqnodeid=APS) little beauty instead.

The sound is great and it's very user friendly.

I went for the silvertone one. The black was $30 dollars more for some unknown reason. :o

The safest way is to back up your library and transfer that library to your new computer when you get a new one...but that's obviously a future suggestion...since there is no old computer now....I update my new additions about once a month from the date of the last backup.

One of the non-apple programs would be your best bet since apple doesn't support the transfer of files from the iPod back to the iTunes unless it is your purchased material using the Sync option within the iTunes program.

I haven't used one of these but I'll be doing some research soon since I recently lost my manual playlists and had to rebuild them all. It would have been nice to have one of these to pull them out of my iPod which was the only place they still existed. Instead it took a week to remake them all.

Good luck Denise,
