View Full Version : Diet: fase 1...
Well... the time has come. My doctor told me to lose 5 kilo's because of my sleepapnea. Yesterday was my first 'date' with the dietician. She was very nice. Only she was very slender. I hate that; dieticians with no visible eatingdisorders. I mean... what do they know about the problems one goes through with that. Oh well, she knows about food and seems to do her best on the rest.
For now the goal is changing my patterns. I have to eat breakfast in the morning. I still have to embed it in my morningritual. Things like that. I probably still eat too much but I am already trying to ban sugar and fat as much from my diet as possible.
It's scary but I'll get there. Part 2 coming up soon.

Good luck Eva,
Would a sympathy diet help? I could stand to lose about 12kg myself. We can suffer together. Of course, it will have to wait until I kill off the cake in my kitchen. . .

Oh, Oaky.....Dar will be so very unhappy with you....
Eva,
I'm crossing my fingers for you, knowing very well how hard it is - but as well that it IS possible. I lost more than 30 kg in about one and a half year when I was between 18 and 20. That's half a lifetime ago but it's still fresh in my memories.
At the beginning it may seem quite hard to change eating habits - that's different from a diet - but it's the only way to a longlasting success I think. After a while - seeing the results - it'll become much easier and you'll feel better. That has always been a great motivation for me and it still is because I still have this fatal tendency to gain weight over the years... don't know why  so I have to do some diet every two or three years to lose 5 kilos.
As I said before: It's not easy but I'm sure you'll make it. Don't be afraid!
Hugs! Mimi

Thank you all for your positive words.
I started off really well. Having breakfast, making a Greek salad for lunch at work and eating fruit and yoghurt instead of chocolate and cookies in the evening. Meat and dairy is not so much my problem (I don't eat all that much of either of them anyway) It's mostly sugar. And sometimes fat. In essence I already eat very healthy.
It's harder than stopping smoking for me. And this weekend I was staying with friends and nothing came of the entire diet. well, Monday is another day. I am hone again (with my own food) and will go to work. I'll just go on where I left off.
Eva :)

Hi Eva!
Good luck on the weight loss adventure. Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as changing your eating habits for good. It's important, I think, to not allow yourself to feel deprived, that's a recipe for disaster. Believe me, as somebody who was once about 50 pounds (don't know the kilo conversion) heavier than I am now, I'm not just making this up.
I LOVE to eat, (shaddup Redjack and Karen ;) ) and it's very easy for me to gain, which is one reason why I stay so active. I try to eat very healthy about 90% of the time. What really helps me feel full is to add vegetables or salads to as many meals as I can. Not only do things like spinach, carrot sticks, broccoli, provide lots of great vitamins, but they are also very filling. I also feel like I have more energy and just feel healthier in general when I include them in my diet. Now when I'm visiting with old friends, or someplace with something unique, or special occassions....heck sometimes often a Saturday night is a special occassion, I will absolutely allow myself splurges, just in moderation. I'll split a dessert with a few people. Nothing tastes as good as the first forkful....so I try to just have a couple forkfuls, instead of just saying no altogether.
I have dessert every single night, but it's ONE cookie, or ONE piece of chocolate, or a small amount of ice cream, not a bag or carton full.
Believe me, I'm not perfect, and I sometimes get lazy and don't pay good attention to what I eat. Then my slacks start to feel tight and I know it's time to get back on the right track. I used to blame tight clothes on the washing machine shrinking them. Now I don't lie to myself and realize that it's me that grew, not the clothes that shrunk. That's helped me stay within 5-10 pounds of my ideal weight for about three years now.
Think of food as fuel......you'll get more miles out of a spinach salad, in terms of energy feelings and health benefits than you will out of a burger and french fries.
Oh and drink lots of water!! :D
Hi Dar,
what you describe is exactly my experience! Couldn't have said it better!
... my talent to gain weight has made me cycle "round the world" - more than 50.000 kilometres since 2002... but that's been great fun too :) ;)

Hey Dar, that was a wonderful post..... and I loved your joke about the Creation :D
Mimi, your cycling mileage would make my nephew proud of you, and another way to lose lots and lots of weight. However that's all abit too time-consuming for me and too much like hard work  and yes I know that's fun too but so is running up and down stairs for some people!!! Within 2 months of my turning veggie, my trousers were getting beyond a joke (too big!) and I haven't touched a pedal for afew years now because of my right knee. I'm about to tighten the safety pins again ( you really wanted to know that :D )
We'll talk soon,
Annabel
Thanks again guys! It helps to know there is someone on my side. It's going okay. In terms of that I am getting hang of the rhythm. Breakfast is in my morningroutine. And I eat five or six smaller portions a day instead of three or four big ones. I allow myself to consider dinner the one big meal a day. The rest is much smaller.
Now and then I slip. Sometimes I consciously am okay with not eating 'right' at that moment. Eating out is a puzzle to me. I have no idea how to fit that in so I don't worry about it at that moment and just eat what I like. I guess I'll find that out as I am going on. I don't 'punish' myself for not eating 'right'. Tomorrow is another day. Besides that I feel that if I take the pressure off myself handling food becomes easier.
In principle I eat what I like. There is nothing (I repeat nothing) that I don't eat. Only the balance has shifted. More vegetables and fruit. Less fat. Almost no sugar (apart from the sugar that comes with fruit of course) Also I plan my meals better. I shop more for groceries instead of getting take out food. It also helps that once a week I eat with my friend / collegue. I always want to make something nice when I have a guest, so I put more effort in planning a meal.
The next step is better portioncontrol. And the third step will be to get myself off my lazy chair to do something active. I already walk a lot. Come over and we'll have a long walk through Rotterdams. Like I had with Mimi. It was fun! And yes, I am aware that that huge piece of applepie was not helping my weightloss :D

That's great news, Eva. Now I've just got to get that part time job at Holland and Barratt's I applied for yesterday and I'll bring the dog as well..... :D (AFTER I've sorted out my passport)

Mimi I don't think she regrets THAT Apple Pie.... I certainly wouldn't :p (drool)
Mimi, I am not a person who usually has regrets about things. Certainly not when it comes to applepies like this! :D
Eva
So glad to hear that, my Pirate Queen!;)

P.S.: Rotterdam and Den Helder pics are on their way to you via snail mail, applepie pic included.
