View Full Version : When they make the movie of Janis' life...

I've found the person to play her in her younger days! If you watch "So You Think You Can Dance," there is a young dancer named Sabra who really reminds me of young, afro Janis! I don't know if she can act, but she has the look! Has anyone else seen her?

And don't rag on me for watching the show!!!

Karen--will you be doing the costumes? Might be a good time to stock up on polyester....

I wonder who will play us. Granted we have a very, very small role, but are we more than mere extras? ;)

Very good question, Dave! I don't know where to get that kind of stuff in yard goods, anymore! I might have to haunt all the local Goodwill stores! My aunt and I made many dresses and outfits out of that stuff!

BTW--whoare Polly and Esther? And why are they wearing those funny clothes??

True. I think there need to be Rudies in that movie.

Yes....we can play ourselves, that shouldn't be very difficult. And portions of Janismania and other events are already on film, after all.

We'll have to get Dar some extra special shiny crap to shake, and do separate takes of of Marjan pre and post guitar.

And of course the infamous "How do you DO that?" clip of Kath of the Guitar MUST be included, or better still, re-enacted with better lighting.

Got any old drapes hanging around Karen?

She may be a bit taller than Janis, but not much! She's tiny! And she has a "tan."

Dee, why didn't I think of that?? :D

sure we could play us, but we'd be older then and the makeup situation may be out of reason. i say we go to local psych wards and recruit from there lol sooooo just kidding.

Hey, if they could keep the Star Trek cast more or less presentable through the mid-90s, there's no reason Rudies can't look like the real thing until nearly the end of the century.

Besides, there really isn't a stock "look" or age for a Rudie. All that is required is the nerve to steal her set lists, and sufficient attendance at Janis Concerts that she either recognizes you from the stage or while you're way at the back of the meet and greet line.

Now that I think about it, I haven't met either criterion yet. Could it be that I'm only a poseur?

JarenSews2 says, "She's tiny...And she has a tan." Why can't Janis play herself? Wasn't she the same height at 15 as she is now? If we can play ourselves surely Janis can play Janis!

If it will be of any help....I'll bet most of us do our own stunts.

very good point that rudies are diverse enough to be played by ourselves...get's me to thinking how we could recreate the party at Janis' and Pat's last year...the rudie bus...the zoo...our pirating days...it's endless

We might have to hire a scribe and write our own book....The Complete And Official Book Of Rudies, by the Rudies, as told to (insert ghost writer here).

All proceeds to the Pearl Foundation of course. Though we really should save out enough to buy an honest-to-goodness bus.

Sabra won So You Think You Can Dance. I haven't been able (and haven't tried very hard) to find a good photo of Sabra. When Wendy was here, we watched the show, and she thought Sabra looked like a young Janis, too. She should certainly be considered when Janis' autobiography is made into a movie! ;)

Did anyone else see her on the show? If you watched the finale (which was way too long!), what was up with that dress that Cat wore? Good grief!! I didn't watch the 1st half, so I don't know if anything was said about it, or not. The designer needs to be slapped!

Oh God, just when I thought that the only reality show I'd ever watch would be "Intervention". Now I've have to see this girl! And, Janis does do a hell of a lot of dancing songs! :)

Kathleen Brogan

Haven't seen this dance person, except in a picture. hmmmm. Holly Hunter, not sure she's quite right. She'd have to loose the southern accent. What about Lily Taylor? Her age is right in the middle, born 1967, so she might be able to pull off teenage to later.

I strongly feel the rudies should be cast as theirselves. We are each unique. As yet I have heard of no "rudie vs Elvis sightings", and we could use the "extra "pay to travel and lodge, those that post allot can be called "speakers" and paid at that rate of speaking part actors;Imagine the fun we could have and the Janis Ian CDs, ect. we could purchase. Janis hurry and complete your autobiography so we can read it and then help make your movie. Janis can play herself as she is today and hairstyle and makeup can make it possable for her to play herself as a 15 year. She is no bigger today just more experenced and beautiful and maybe less nieve. She willo win an Oscar!

DaveM

Quite agree....there's simply no substitute for real Rudies. I challenge any casting director to come up with convincing standins for Dar, Kath of the Guitar, Kathleen Brogan, and of course Redjack. Not to mention that Jenny has most of the wardrobe. And many others just couldn't be imitated, of course.

As a comparatively minor Rudie, I expect I could be replaced. I'm good at eating, though.

As I'm mentioned in the credits of the JanisMania dvd I'm willing to participate into a possible making of a movie of Janis' life in exchange of a flight ticket and hotel accomedation :D

Kathleen, I was thinking more in terms of you playing the role of Belle of the Blues.

lucille
08-25-2007, 05:15 AM
Yes Mrs Sews2, I have to agree that Sabra would be a great young Janis. She also does comedy, and a lot of stand up comedians are good actors. But for the even younger Janis, I had the hair at three :D Oh hang on I forgot, I ain't three no more.

I agree with Dave that Kath of the Guitar should appear with better lighting and sound. Actually she did a little private performance for me, and although the lighting left something to be desired, the sound was pretty good. How does she do that?

The casting director now has to find a young Dar. Anyone got any suggestions?

Dave, don't forget you won the two millionth post - that deserves a prominent mention:)

Oh yes....they'll have to have a quick shot of the back of my head while I'm at the computer clicking on the IE bookmark.

Still most grateful for all of the "stuff" that came out of that. Mind, for those who may still be curious, I never did get the phone call....perhaps it has something to do with the Nut File?
