I am SO spoiled by my Sirius satellite radio! I have it programmed so that if any Janis song comes on ANY Sirius radio station, my radio notifies me. I was on another channel when "BEEP", the artist alert goes off. I look and it says, "Janis Ian." I press select expecting to hear either "At Seventeen" or "Mockingbird". Previously those were the only 2 Janis songs I'd heard on Sirius before. But nope. It takes me to a station called "Sirius Disorder" and then I hear, "Society's Child!" Believe it or not, this was the very FIRST time I'd ever heard that song on ANY radio station. I was Soooo excited!!

As for the station title which might put one off. Here is how Sirius describes the radio station: "ECLECTIC/FREE FORM
Adventurous music for grownups, from a diversity of styles and eras. ARTISTS INCLUDE:
Bob Dylan
Bob Marley
White Stripes
James Brown
Ryan Adams
and many more...

I think I've found a new favorite station. I just used one of my 30 presets!!

Thanks for letting me share. Sometimes it's just the little things in life....

Marcia :)

Lucky YOU, Marcia! Still don't know why but I never heard any of Janis' songs on any German radio station... she seems to be the great unknown over here. It's been in my mind for a long time to ask one of my favorite radio stations: "Sorry guys, but haven't you missed someone really really great?"

I heard Society's Child on my Sirius player on "The Bridge" on the way from Washington to Ohio. I've also only heard those three songs.

If you go to the sirius website for the disorder channel or The Bridge, I believe you can request songs. Maybe we'll hear more Janis that way!

(I just bought my Sirius player a couple months ago and I can't get enough of it.)

I have XM and I've heard At Seventeen on the 70's station. I was putting gas in my car last week and Janis was playing on the outdoor speakers at the station. Some local station I think. So good! On another note, I discovered I have the music to Jesse in a collection "150 of the most beautiful songs ever". I should have known.

Oooooow Marcia, how wonderful. If I had a station like that I would listen to the radio a lot more.

Believe me, I DO listen a lot more. I'll listen to the Broadway or Jazz stations mostly. But yeah, I like "The Bridge" a lot as well. I have several of my favorite artists programmed in as I like Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson...well, many of the jazz greats. But then there's Carly Simon, Janis of course, etc. You can also program it for a specific song if you don't want to be prompted by everything 1 particular artist does.

For those of you on the board who may have missed it a few months back when Janis posted the link, Pandora internet radio is another good option for those of us who don't have satellite radio.

I have two "stations" on Pandora I listen to, "Janis Ian Radio" and "Maria Muldaur Radio." Pandora will also play music by other artists with similar styles, and you can tell it which ones you like and dislike, and it will fine tune what it plays to suit your tastes. I was very pleased to discover that my "Janis Ian" station plays a lot of Eva Cassidy as well, another of my favorites.
