Janis,

I recall having read somewhere - probably on one of your albums, that the Martin had been stolen - and that had really pissed me off - I did not know that it was eventually recovered. I love a story with a happy ending!

Always love your monthly updates, Janis. If they're an inkling of what your book will be like, we're in for a treat. Yes the tan looks fantastic-I'm jealous.

Love the link from the "playing cards" comment. I guess I need a little more structure to my procrastination!

Janis, what is your card game of choice? I love card and board games!

You can tan!!! Envy.

It's very cold, windy, and somewhat rainy up here. Mind sending some heat? I guess I haven't gotten burned, though, so that's good...

Janis - if you want a picture on the next CD, the hat and the tan might be the one.

Re "The Tan," here's how I look at it:
Pat is a redhead, with very fair skin. Irish ancestry. Obviously made to live in the rain, the fog, the Irish weather.
I'm built for heat. Curly hair to wick the wet away. Swarthy skin. Dark eyes. Even I was amazed on day three in Fire Island, when I looked at photos of myself with everyone else. I was dark dark dark; they were all still pale pale pale.
The way I figure it, I'm built for heat and the tundra. Short, to make life on the steppes easier. Curly hair, again to wick the wet away. Dark eyes, a shield against the violent sun. Stocky, the better to ride Mongolian horses.
That's my thoughts, anyhow!

My goodness, it was nice to see with the hat! Reminded yourself of the late Steeve Ray Vaughn! And the tan...........great!
I saw the Poster, 1968! Wow! I have, at least, have a singer or player, on record, when I was 24, (1968)……except Janis Ian, Don McLean, or Robbie Robertson. I think that I heard it (R.R.) in 1969!! I think that the name became “The Band”…which I realy love them!!…….(Actually, I’ve never heard of John Bassette or Andy Robinson.) Pat and I, say Don McLean, at Auckland, NZ, 1974, I think. And, obviously……..Janis Ian, Live, at Sydney, 2001.
Where is "Fire Island"? Near New York?

Hopefully see you again soon................Lots of Aroha........Kiwi Mike

Mike, Janis herself has provided the link to this. Just click on the link which says "Fire Island" in the text from the update :)

Actually....if Janis were to incorporate a hat and sunglasses into her stage wardrobe, she'd bear a certain resemblance to Eric Burdon or Roy Orbison. To the eyes only, mind.

Janis,

I was just thinking about that great photo of you again this morning, and I think it would make a good one for your author's photo in the book. People would certainly have trouble labeling you the queen of depression anymore after seeing how happy you look in that one!

Peggy is 100% Irish and fair fair fair, she uses heavy spf sunscreen daily and avoids the sun as much as possible. She's had many bouts of getting questionable spots frozen off. Me, I'm 100% Italian SOUTHERN Italian, which means I probably have some very VERY dark ancestors. I get tanned sitting outside reading a book on my lunch hour. I know it's not good for my skin, and I'm probably prematurely aging my face, but I sure LOVE the sun.

Dee....it might be difficult for Janis to pass herself off as the "queen of depression" anymore anyway. Too many of us have seen and heard her laugh.
