Janis will be on Dutch television this coming Wednesday 26 April. The show is called "Max & Catherine" and is on from 17:35 to 18:25 local.
I believe she willl be singing "Joy".

It's on Nederland 1, that's like the Dutch BBC 1, just not as good (well, next wednesday it will be). I don't know if you can get it on satellite, but you might be able to view it online afterwards. I'll check that.

It should be there the same night, after 9:30 PM (Dutch time)

Find the correct date (if you visit this week it should be listed on the right, if not search the archive called 'archief'.)

Click the icon for the mediaplayer and bandwith of your choice
(basically: smal=dial-up, breed=(A)DSL)

If anyone has problems with the Dutch, either on the website or in the show, PM me and I'll try to be of assistance.

In 4FM Mezzo en MAX en Catherine komt de singer-songwriter Janis Ian langs. Aanleiding is haar nieuwe album ‘Folk is the New Black’. Haar muziek is een mix tussen folk, country en blues, met een geheel eigen stijl.


Janis is al 40 jaar lang een bekende Amerikaanse singer-songwriter en componiste.

Society’s Child
Janis Ian debuteerde op 14-jarige leeftijd met een zelfgeschreven song ‘Society’s Child’, die haar in het Amerika van 1966 meteen nationaal bekend maakte. Op 14-jarige leeftijd debuteerde zij met een zelfgeschreven song, ‘Society’s Child’, die haar in het Amerika van 1966 meteen nationaal bekend maakte. De tekst ging over een relatie tussen een blank meisje en een zwarte jongen. De discussie of zoiets wel kon brandde los en Janis stond in het middepunt van de belangstelling.

Hoogtepunten
Janis werd met haar hits ‘Society’s Child’ en ‘Seventeen’ enorm bekend in de jaren zestig. Sommigen noemen haar, mede hierdoor, zelfs een levende legende. In haar 40-jarige carrière, scoorde zij meerdere grote hits zoals `Fly Too High' en 'Jesse'.

Later werd het is een tijdje stil rondon de zangeres, wat mede kwam doordat ze door bedrog van haar boekhouder financieel aan de grond kwam te zitten. Met ‘Breaking Silence’ kwam ze in 1992 echter weer sterk terug. Dit album is weer zeer de moeite waard en biedt een groot scala aan onderwerpen: Van concentratiekampen tot zestiger jaren nostalgie.

Vandaag
Op dit moment is Janis weer bezig met een tour. Zij is al in Groot-Brittannië geweest en komt in april 2006 voor één optreden naar Nederland. In oktober volgt een tour door Nederland en België.

Recente CD's zijn ‘God & the FBI’ (2000), ‘Billie’s Bones’ (2004) en ‘Folk is the New Black’ (2006).

On a similiar note, does any one know when the Ken Bruce songs of my years is being aired, please?
I always listened, when I was near a radio when I drove the hire carsa.
Now, I will need to go to the bbc web site, as I don't have a radio in my own car, which am using to deliver a set of books & toys, to workers within Crawley , Horsham, etc.
To Rowy & the RudiesI told at the LRC about the job, its going a bit better & I aim to break even soon, on the wages, against my previous income of £275 a week, after tax!.
