"You sound tired"
she says to me
from the other end
of a two thousand mile
daily conversation.
Short and sweet
"I love you very much"
" I love you too."

"You sound tired"
she says to me
hanging on
to a rapidly
unraveling wire.
"Are you sure you;re ok?"
"Yes , I'm fine"
" You know i worry"
"There's no need to"
"But you know i do"
"Yes, I love you"
" I love you too."

"You sound tired"
she says to me
her voice draggin
across the air
like a mortally
wounded soilder
over a firey battlefield.

"You sound tired"
i say to her
"I'm fine honey"
Is her reply
our hearts
silently break
in unison
and she wonders
how it got this way

That is beautiful, hoops - thank you SO for sharing that poignant and beautiful piece...! I have something to share back:

Ode to lost love:

If there really is a bridge across forever
Let me meet you half way
We can hold hands, look both ways
And wonder at our choices.

We'll laugh and wave at the starry sky
And look into eachothers eyes
And know what we see is real
And know that love is ours. Always

If there really is a bridge across forever
I will see you in another life
And you will really see me this time
And embrace me to your heart, and not hurt me

We will hold eachother under a gentle sun
And race the waves into the shore
Feel the tide turn against our skin
And understand the meaning of forever once more.

Hoop, that piece of writing just fell into a place in my heart - so sad to hear of the loss of your mom. There is very little harder than that in this world. You have completely honoured her with your writing, which is achingly beautiful.

xxx take care of you.
