I was luck enough to have a wondeful evening with Janice here in Edinburgh another magical event.
She was on top form and as always made me laugh and made me weep.
It was just like coming home.

Glad to hear you had a great evening, even if it seems to be Janis' evil twin Janice stealing into the theatres.
Have fun, and drop by often.

I was at the gig last night too. A month ago I didn't even know Janis existed and now I have every album :) The gig was *amazing* I'm a singer myself, but I'm 5'11".. how Janis manages to have such a huge voice in such a petite body I don't know :)
I'm really looking forward to chatting with other fans in here.. I've been listening to 'Folk is the new black' all morning.. my 6 y/o son thinks 'The Crocodile Song' is hilarious and he sang it all the way to the dentists today :)

Hi Liz. Welcome to the board! Always amazes me when someone says they just discovered Janis. I've been a fan for over 30 years! Glad to have you here. Stick around! Sometimes Janis participates here when she isn't totally over-loaded. Heck, sometimes even when she IS!!
Marcia :)
PS Last year in Yellow Springs, Janis' evil twin Janice had the tickets printed in HER name!!
;)
Thanks for the report princess and cherade and welcome to the board both of you!!
Cherade, you have all of her albums already? Wow you work fast!!
Do you have all three of her Unreleased Ones yet?? How about the two DVD's? Welcome to the addiction. It's cheaper than crack and you don't have to cook......although personally I love it when people cook. ;)

I shook her hand! It was all very exciting.. it was my first night out in over a year. I'm a mum of a 6 y/o.. my friend introduced me to her music, bought me the ticket and took me to the gig. I *like* my friend verrrry much :)
I found myself sat crying sevreal times thoughout the gig. Especially to 'Society's Child'. She wrote that at 14??? I look back on the drivel I produced at that age and cringe :) She has such a knack for creating lyrics and music with a deceptive simplicity, yet when put together and performed they are truely breathtaking.
I was really struck by how she manages to express her own views and beliefs though her songs without ever being overtly didactical. Onstage she projects a warm and homely presence.. I'd love to be able to sit down and chat with her over tea and biscuits :)
Anyway, I'm really happy to have stumbled upon her and her music. Music is at the heart of my and my families life and she certainly has produced a lot of something special ;)

Yes I did stay to speak with Janis after the show she was so sweet there was loads of people staying back to see her after the show..she recieved each person with patience and interest.
I saw Janis for the first time in Edinburgh 2004. I was so excited to meet her I had looked up her web sight..and descovered her avid interst in reading books...so I decided to take a book along to the concert with me to give her as a gift after the show...I was soooo nervous but I plucked up the courage waited to see her and gave her the book (it was a story about the tough existence for women in china) any way I handed her the book suddenly feeling very silly and self consiouse...she appeared delighted..around a month later I sent her an email..and she got back to me thanking me very much (couldnt quite remeber the book but grateful for the thought) I was hooked from then....

Liz is telling minor porkies in an abundance of enthusiasm. :) They're at the top of her "For When I'm Not Poor" list, but for now she's borrowing my copies - and I don't have a full set myself, missing as I am Aftertones, Janis Ian II, Uncle Wonderful, Unreleased 2 and the five albums prior to Stars. (That's my FWINP list, BTW ... donations gratefully accepted. :))
It was a great gig. Janis has really grown in stage presence since the last time I saw her live (Aberdeen, the God and the FBI tour). That's an odd thing to say about a woman who's been gigging since the Sixties, but only four years ago she was worried the audience wouldn't like her after she sang Ride Me Like A Wave, and spent half the gig wondering if she was the best gay Jewish singer/songwriter in the room. She performed brilliantly, of course, but she seemed diffident and almost scared. Now she's much more confident and self-assured. Maybe it's like Kris Kristofferson said and freedom's just another word for "nothing left to lose", but so long as she's happy I don't think it matters.
One odd thing about the gig, though: she opened the second set with Tea and Sympathy. It's a perfectly serviceable song, but it's very maudlin. I was thinking at the time that if she followed up with Stars and Jesse she'd empty the gallery ... into the main auditorium, without using the stairs.
Anywho, enough of my wittering.
