View Full Version : Night Sky
Last night a friend appeared on the deck and started fiddling with this object that looked like a clock radio. Then he would point it to the night sky, look at the face, point it to the sky again and so on. He is obsessed with techno toys, so many times I just ignore him, but this time I bit...I mean, after all, what was he doing with a clock radio on the deck? Turns out it is something called a Celestron Sky Scout - which is essentially, an itty bitty planetarium. Pick a star, any star - point this gadget at it, lock it in and it will tell you it's name. I know it's some kind of highly complicated GPS, but it was pure magic.

Wow Judy did you get to use it? I have always loved looking at the stars with my grandmother while we were lying in the grass. She had all these names of the stars, that I knew were just names handed down from generation to generation. It was wonderful! My grandmother was beautiful and wonderful. I miss her so!
Keep on looking at the stars, Granny

Now, THAT'S pure magic!
Point well taken, Mix -
Actually, Darlene, he left it here. Last night my daughter was standing in the yard (and yes, it helps to live in the country where you can always see lots of stars) - anyway, she was using it with due wonderment and said "remember when I was little and would sit here with my flashlight and glo-in-the-dark map of the stars?...I would have never come inside if I'd have had this." I did remember and still saw that little girl last night.

Thanks Judy, Is it not beautiful to see that little child inside that adult? That is what being a mother is all about.
Peace, Darlene
I remember lying half in and half out of a little pup tent with one of my sisters up on the hill behind my grandmother's house. We spent most of the night counting the shooting stars and fell asleep just as we were.
That was the same sister I camped out with behind the couch one Christmas Eve waiting for Santa.
