This man has been a hero of mine alongside Janis since the early 80s.
In spite of having many hits in the 80s and 90s he endured a large amount of homophobia in the press throughout that time.
In 2004, after performing a series of concerts which won overwhelming acclaim in the press, he was involved in a serious motorbike crash, which sent him into a coma for a while, and meant that it has taken him 3 years to learn to sing again and perform on stage again.
Last weekend he made it back to the London stage, with 3 concerts at the derelict Wilton's Music Hall in London and despite huge stage nerves he gained fantastic press reviews and standing ovations on the night.
It was a moving night for me as he has been a constant source of inspiration throughout the last 25 years, and to see him back on top of his game was amazing.
As a result he has been given a 90 minute radio special on the BBC in two weeks' time and I have free tickets :-)
what I love about this video clip is that it sums up last weekend's concerts- no hits, just a major star singing to 180 people in an old 19th century pub.
The song is about the scars gay people suffered growing up in the 60s and 70s and is vey emotional to me.
"You displayed all your bruises, whilst I covered mine"
"You stayed true to yourself, while I was poisoned by my time..."
such a moving song
