On the previous message board there was discussion of DPOA's (Durable Power of Attorney) for health care during the height of the Terry Schaivo controversy. Cannot stress enough the importance of having this, folks. I've had a DPOA for about 15 years and never imagined how helpful it would be. During my eye crisis, I immediately informed them that my partner had my DPOA and that all decisions ultimately went to her. (Of course, all info was run by me, but I was in #1 such pain and #2 under so much pain meds how could I really give informed consent?)
Take care of yourselves, everybody. If you haven't taken care of this, please do.

thank you Judy, that is a very important thing to remember. I have all my paperwork done up , i just have no one who i can think of to sign it. There si only one person in this world who i think would fulfill MY wishes should i become incapable and she lives 2000 miles away. and she has never met my family. it's tricky.

A good reminder, Judy.

A very close friend (and former partner) has had Power of Attorney for Personal Care and Continuing Power of Attorney for Property for many many years now. I also have a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) flag on all my medical files.
