Tomorrow is graduation day at Indiana University, and my daughter, Bailey, will be getting 3 (count 'em, 3) diplomas! There is a small ceremony in the morning for the Inividual Major Program students. Her IMP degree is her Bachelor in Fashion Design. In the afternoon, at the 2nd of the big graduations, she will be awarded a Bachelor in Apparel Merchandising, and an Associate in Costume Construction Technology. Yeee haaaa! I am so very proud of her!

On a more somber note, she called me today, crying. She had an annual check-up last week, and the doctor called her today with the news that her PAP showed "low-grade abnormal cells." She said this could indicate HPV, cancer, or nothing. She goes for a biopsy next Wednesday. I, and many others I know, have had this in the past, and it has always been nothing, so I am hopeful that hers will be the same.

This seems like a good time to ask for good Rudie vibes and prayers. Thanks in advance.

Most impressed, Karen, as are we all and do be sure to let her know that.

As to the health issue....Rudie Power never fails, and she's got it with her!

Contrats to your daughter for her hard work and good brains, which she probably got from her mama.
And prayers and GREAT BIG RUDIE VIBES to her and her health.
Peace, Darlene

Hats off to your daughter Karen! From someone who actually flunked home economics (probably the only one in the history of our school)I am impressed.
Hope it's nothing or something like a yeast infection that's giving the abnormal pap. Rudie vibes for your daughter

Yesterday was a day! I normally hate graduations (I didn't even attend when I got my Masters), but it was great. The morning ceremony was small and intimate. About 28 graduates were each introduced and a short bio was read that each one had written. I got a bit teary when Bailey's included "...thanks to my parents for their abundance of love and support." The large afternoon ceremony (the 2nd of 2) was held where the basketball games are played, and I have no idea how many graduates were there! As they all came streaming in from 4 entrances, the band was playing Pomp and Circumstance, I started crying. I had no idea where she was or anything, but it was such an emotional time! Of course, I'm the same mom who cried the first time Bailey rode a merry-go-round! Images of incoming graduates were on the huge screens of the scoreboard, and it struck me that nearly every one of them was on a cell phone! A sea of black gowns filled the floor, and 2 sections of seats on either side of the floor! It turned out that Bailey was in one of the last rows on the side where we were sitting. She could stand up and wave to us--that is, after she called me on the phone!

Tavis Smiley delivered the commencement address--the 1st African American to do so. He graduated from IU after arriving there in 1982, with 1 suitcase, a letter of acceptance, and $35 in his pocket after he gave his friend $15 gas money for taking him down from Fort Wayne. His parents did not support his decision to go to college, and would not take him to Bloomington.

With such a large graduating class, the only ones to "walk" were the doctoral
candidates. Even that took a while. An observation: as most of the people were receiving their doctoral hoods, they would remove their mortarboards and turn their backs to the individuals putting them on. I think the only ones who didn't seem to have the sense to remove the caps were the engineers! Watching them try to negotiate the hoods OVER the caps was pretty funny!

We ended the day at a nice restaurant.

The medical issues were put aside for the day, but I thank you all for your continued good thoughts and prayers.

Wow! 3 Diplomas! That is something for you all to be very proud of, and I'm sure Bailey worked very hard to achieve those honors!
Let's hope the medical works out as well, and turns out to be nothing.
Wishing her the very bright future she is promising to have!
Hugs,

Hey Karen!
Please tell Bailey I said congrats!!

As to the pap smear thing........I have had that same thing come up the last four times I've had a pap smear. Then I go back and they do a different type, I forget what it's called, and everything is all clear. It seems to be that just not all cells fit the perfectly normal filter, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are BAD cells.

I'm betting that it's nothing for Bailey as well. Thinking of you both anyway!

Bailey's biopsy was Wednesday, and the Dr. said it didn't seem to be cancer. Bailey has to call this next week to get the results. I'm still thinking (hoping!) it's nothing.

Thank you all for your continued good thoughts and prayers!
