OK--who wants to roompool?
SongDragon
05-02-2007, 04:29 PM
I'll likely roompool. Because even if I bring a friend of mine or my sister we can usually (not the usually... this is a reserve clause for kicking and biting cases) double up. Hmmm... wonder what the studio rooms are like...
Making reservations so far in advance is difficult...
~Song

Making reservations so far in advance is difficult...
~Song
You're right, Song, I find that difficult, too, not know yet if my partner will be able to be there with me next year and who else will be there to share the room with.
I wonder if it's really necessary to make reservations so far in advance?

It is possible to leave it to the last minute, just dangerous. I just never know what my family will be doing... But to be on the safe side I probably should (notice the word should) register two tickets and a place for me to stay, because that will definitely force my schedule around it if I've already put up money. I know once I've spent money I follow that plan...
We probably want to do it early just because it'll make it that much easier to estimate costs and numbers ahead of time so that things aren't disorganized when we get there.

guess you have to call directly.

I'll book a suite again, and will be happy to share. Last year I phoned from here to book, but will wait until I get to the US next month (Yikes, it's next month:eek: ). Redjack, is there a conference room or lounge area we can use exclusively in the evenings for our deep and meaningful meetings? Otherwise it can be in my suite. Leslie and Mr. Leslie's room was too small last year;) OH, and we like to partake of a cool ale or some alchoholic beverages at these meetings.

Mimi
not necessary, just preferred. Making the arrangements early locked our group into a decent rate, Rates for this place are going up for '08 so I wanted to make sure we got locked in at this years rates minus group discount. Rooms are also limited as this hotel ends up being long term stay for business travellers. No pressure though, I doub't we'll run out of Studio rooms (Studios are just 1 big room with a living area, kitchen and bed)
Wendy, i'll see what we can come up with. I'm not sure there is a conference room at this hotel, i'll call and check into it. At the very least, Casa De Redjack is nearby and while not spacious, there is ample cool ales and alcoholic beverages to be had.

Ben...am I correct in believing that this hotel is located right at the airport ?
KarenSews2
05-03-2007, 11:02 AM
Marilyn, it is not at the airport, but it is not far away. We also found out that there is a shuttle (I think at the hotel) that will pick up/drop off at the airport. When we last saw Dar, she was waving from the window of the shuttle!

Hey Song. The studio rooms are nice but they only have a double bed. They DO have a comfy recliner though. I have to find out what the brand is because I liked it well enough to buy one! There's also a small dining table. I need to remember to bring dishwashing soap. I didn't want to use the dishwasher for just a few plates and utensils! Conveniently, there is a Target and TONS of stores nearby. And they also have a full-size refrigerator in the event that there are any leftovers.......I suspect this time around there might not be!!
I tried to make a reservation yesterday on the group rate. They had me leave a voicemail for the woman in charge of that but she never called me back....
Marcia
This place was great. All the rooms have little kitchenettes, complete with full size fridges with icemakers. The staff was very friendly, and not only is there a Target nearby, but there's also a WALMART! It was my first experience of the midnight shopper zombies, now that was an experience.
I couldn't believe all the folks going shopping that late at night.

Paul Hogan aka Crocodile Dundee started out as a comedian. He did a skit where he was an Italian magician with a beautiful assistant. His magic tricks never worked and his comment was always "keepa onna dancin' Maria". It is a catch phrase here when things go astray.:D
So we will all keepa onna a dancin' until August 2008.

I've got a call into her Marcia, I'm sure that she didn't expect anyone to call on the rooms this soon, but then again, she's never witnessed the power of a fully operational onslaught of Rudies before.

As suspected, Linda hadn't had a chance to put the rooms into the system yet. Thats all been taken care of now, Marcia.. She should be contacting you shortly.
I've also taken the liberty of reserving a room (a 1 bedroom) for use by the group as a general meeting/socializing area for the 1st and 2nd of August 2008. we'll spread the cost over the group as things develop.
IrishBeth, KarenSews, SisterRose, and Hoops, can i depend on your services for this event? (actually, i just want an excuse to have Hoops chauffer me around on her bike!)

A college friend of my brother's went on a collecting trip to South America, during which he was bitten on the forehead by some insect which, it became apparent, had laid an egg in the wound. Hoping that he might have discovered a new species or something else otherwise unknown to the world of entomology, he left the thing in place and returned home with a huge knot forming on his head and ever-growing anticipation.
The "thing" burrowed out and dropped into his lap while he was watching a football game. And, alas, proved to be some boring old commonplace species. He's got a dandy scar, though.

Well, Terrie, biology majors tend to live in their own world--rather like computer majors except that the biology folks' world is much grubbier and filled with icky things which they, for reasons best known to themselves, find delightful.
A fellow my brother worked with for some years spent some of those years in detailed study of raccoon roundworm, an especially persistent parasite which is found in most of the raccoons in this part of the country. If contracted by a human, it is potentially fatal--and you can never completely get rid of it. Just stay away from raccoons, folks.
However, he was quite happy doing post-mortems on infested raccoons, even though, as he once demonstrated, he could wash the table down afterwards with boiling Clorox, then go over the whole thing with a blow torch, after which there were STILL viable roundworm eggs to be found on the table. I walked in once while he was going at it in the lab and decided I'd rather go someplace safer. So I went over and hung out with the guy who was milking the rattlesnakes.
For you diehard larvae fans....visit YouTube and enter a search for "bot fly". There's some delightfully icky stuff there.
