I know, if wishes were horses, beggars could ride.

But I certainly wish I could have all of you fill out the recommendation form for me for different applications... I mean I talk to you off and on all the time, and some of you have known me for years!

Okay, so far I have five colleges to send stuff to. Two in Nova Scotia, Canada (pretty leaves), one in Florida (not close to anyone, but not as far as here... hmmm...), one in Montana (kind of interesting experiment... lets put me somewhere where I know no one and see if I have the ability to make friends), and one in Tennessee (the advantage there would be I have a friend there, automatic roommate so I don't have to worry about learning someone's personality... I know it... I also know it will be an entertaining test of our friendship--we've been friends since fourth grade, no fear!).

*sighs*

Off to do... Essay after essay after essay... And (timidly timidly) ask teachers for recommendations.

Boy I hope they don't remember every single sarcastic comment I ever made...

Oh, Song - I say make your bid for Nova Scotia...Nova Scotia is so much more that a place of fabulous sights; it is a lifestyle. We can talk here about a "kinder and gentler time", but most of what I've seen of Nova Scotia still lives it unthinkingly. Through the years (including our last trip there two years ago) we have become accustomed to driving along the road and seeing little stands along-side the road. Be it produce, lobster traps or crafts; there will be a coffee can and a sign that directs you to pick out what you want & leave the money in the can. One flea market type place had a sign on the door that said to come on in, leave money on the counter if you found something or honk the horn if you had any questions. And this isn't a specific part of the Provence; it's been everywhere. (We've only briefly visited Halifax - such signs weren't there, but the trusting atmosphere was the same.) I dare say you would flourish in such a place.

Where in Montana? I attended a class for a month at Montana State a very long time ago. I loved it there! The western part of the state is gorgeous, but not so interesting in the eastern portion.

Hey, send that form on out here! I'll tell 'em all about you!! hee hee!

Heck, I'll write recommendations.....just tell me what to say and I'll be ever so sincere. Since we've never met or spoken I'll be able to write completely without prejudice.

The only problems with Nova Scotia (yes, one is in Halifax, the other is outside the city a bit) that I see is getting in, and the problem of not being able to work on a study visa.

But other than that it looks like a lot of fun...

Friendly places aren't too hard to find (though I don't think I would count Las Vegas as one of them). I usually head to the North East, so far anywhere between Maine and Connecticut, and I'm perfectly fine.

And there is one issue with sending you all my recommendation: when they ask "Relationship to the Applicant" and the section specifically says it is to be filled by an "academic instructor, employer, or other individual having personal knowledge about your potential for success" I don't think that "Rudie" or "Messageboard Friend" counts. I may ask someone I tutored in math for a while, and I will definitely have to ask an instructor... I just feel odd having no employer to ask (of course I've worked a bit for my family, but they never let family members fill these things out).

It was a nice thought, anyway. Otherwise you would be right there at the top of my list Karen and Dave. Well... maybe not Karen... Her threats worry me!

Song -
If you're looking at places that don't acknowledge "Rudies" as a legitimate group with excellent personal assessment skills ... well, we may not want you going there.

Song--if I can work up a recommendation, I can certainly come up with an official title. I am, after all, an ordained minister of the Progressive Universal Life Church, and for a small fee, they will happily sell me a doctorate in any number of fields. Or I could just put down "spiritual advisor".

I believe Sister Rose is a minister of the same church....perhaps we'll end up marrying each other.

Song.. I'd happily write a recommendation.. and mine comes with a middlebury.edu return address!

Ooh, you do not know how tempting that is, Amy.

Of course the problem with that is you've still never met me and still never actually taught me anything (except about life, which all you Rudies are good at... parenting me and all).

Redjack, I didn't even think of looking up any schools in Pittsburgh. Any with a late admissions policy? Would be convenient for that Jan-nic in 2008...

:p

I'll look. I mean, if I'm already applying to five colleges how much can one more hurt? Besides in the money or hard decisions area...
