Abortion bill sure to fuel fire
Ohio law would make act a felony

The passage of South Dakota's statewide abortion ban earlier this month has caused a renewed interest in a proposal to make abortions illegal in Ohio.

Ohio house bill 228 introduced by Tim Brinkman, R-Mount Lookout, in April would make it a felony for a woman to seek to terminate her pregnancy and holds the same penalty if she chooses to leave the state for the medical procedure.

Additionally, anyone who helps coordinate an abortion or transportation to leave the state for one could be charged as well.

*sigh* Crazy state...

Talk about legislating healthcare.... Like smoking and medical maryjuana use this should not be a political issue but instead for individuals, the involved families and their healthcare to officials to resolve.... Not fat old men seeking more power and re-election by religious zealots. This is about freedom... or the loss there of... Let free people make choices.

Best to all

Randy, I didn't realize that I had "pushed one of your buttons" so much on that smoking issue. I really do apologize if I've upset you that much. I do believe we'd agree on most other issues, though.

Let me explain my philosophy here. I do not care whether you smoke or not. Well, I do care, but I recognize that's your choice. And I do think marijuana shouldn't be an illegal substance, but I don't think I'd want it in public places (except, of course, places that get special permits like alcohol licenses perhaps. I can avoid those, just like I avoid bars.).

"Let people make choices." I think the question we're all dancing around here is what balance between too many choices (anarchy) and too few choices (Orwellian thought police) is good for our democracy. I honestly think there are some choices people should not be allowed to make. I don't think motorcyclists should have the choice to not wear a helmet. I don't think motorists should have the choice of not wearing their seatbelt. At the core, people make stupid choices that effect others negatively.

And that's all I'll say here to not stray too far from the topic at hand...

Welllllllll... Regarding the helmet and seatbelt laws.... I don't think common sense should be legislated either... But then the few people I know that are unwilling to wear a helmet or seatbelt do it simply as an act of protest... I chose to wear a seatbelt long before the law was inacted... and as far as motorcycles go... I get on a bike... I fall off.... That said I don't ride a bike so I don't need a helmet.... Do I think it's a good thing for a biker to wear... yes.... Do I support the idea of it being made a law... nooooo...

Actually as I think I stated smoking is less a button pushing issue for me then the loss of the freedoms for a person to make their own decisions... Yes it's all about freedom in my opinion.....

In closing I can only say to Gisli.... Thank you for not breathing while I CONTINUE to smoke....
Best to all

This is a very delicate topic.

I have to agree with both of you, Randy and Rkitgo on who should decide abortion or not, but..............there is a but and that is the woman´s point of view.

In abortion they suffer the most................in most cases

.........and when not allowed to have abortion......they also suffer the most, in most cases.

Unfortunately, Ohio is not the only crazy state. Laws similar to this are pending in lots of state. The Christian wing of the republican party is bound and determined to overturn Roe v Wade.

As Gloria Steinhem once said, "If men had the babies, abortion would be a sacrament"

Ain't it da truth. When will the government stop trying to legislate womens bodies?

As I just said to Betty (and I'm still getting dirty looks) IrishBeth is my Hero.... Oh and if men had babies I assure you the human race would have long ago been extinct...

Oh, incidently according to the NBC evening News In the United States last year there were over 80,000 lawnmower related accidents.... Now it's damn well time we put a stop to this... We need laws to protect us from those crazed lawn mower pushers... Why aren't mowing licenses required? And no insurance... I mean for Redjack's sake.... Who will protect us from the crazed amatuer gardeners if not those that we elect into public office???? LAWN MOWERS KILL!!!! I think a 30 cool-off period should be required for background checks if your going to buy a mower... Remember... when Lawn mowers are outlawed only outlaws will have lawn mowers...

Best to all... Betty says hello..... Somebody gag Gisli.... ;)
