..... what an awesome evening. This was my first time at this venue as it is new and still a work in progress, however the concert hall is complete. Absolutely beautiful, a venue that will fit Janis perfectly. It is an old schoolhouse that has been completely renovated... the acoustics were unbelieveable.....
.....the stage was set with a ton of quitars, drums, fiddles, chairs etc.. and I made eye contact with Kathy's quitar pics, and thumb picks. I thought my seats were on the 3rd row and I was WRONG... they were front row...
....the lights go down and the dimly lit drapes in the background become bright, the band begins to play and out walks Kathy playing a flute to celtic - oriented music...Kathy looks great!!!...
She played her big hits, new songs and at one point asked for request... I shouted out "all roads to the river"..... after finally decideing which quitar to use and finding the right key to sing and play it... off they went... they did an awesome job and at the end mentioned that this was stump the band night however they were not stumped... afterall... her band last night included..."Jim Brock" on drums.... : "Rick Blackwell" on bass......"Fred Carpenter".. on fiddle.....and "Randy Leago" on keyboard. Half of Janis' band.
Kathy is full of energy when she plays the quitar... and she entertained us the whole time....
after 2 1/2 hours it came to a close and it was time to get run outside and get my quitar. Low and behold there was Jim Brock standing outside.. I stopped to say hello, shake his hand and asked if he wound mind signing my quitar? He was happy to do so.. An awesome man... and we talked about Janis and said he was very at home when playing "all roads to the river"..saying he was a part of that.. well of course!! Off I go to get in line for the meet and greet.. Kathy signed my quitar and we posed for pics... I told her I was wearing one of Janis' stage shirts from the past.... An awesome night....and a night to treasure.. I am still in shock of meeting Jim...he is a big man but very soft spoken and gentle... amazing man... Half of my special weekend is over.... On to Bonnie Raitt tonight.....
I am using a film camera so pics will follow when they get developed... You were'nt allowed to take pics during Kathys show so I only have the meet and greet pics....
thanks... Jenny ;-)

Very cool review Jenny! I really like Kathy Mattea's voice. I'd love to see her in concert some time. I am more jealous though, that you met Jim Brock! I'd love to have a pair of his drumsticks to go with my "Billies Bones" drumhead!!!

Marcia :)

your ears should have been burning last night Marcia... you were the first person I thought about when I saw he was there..... I also mentioned to him about that drumhead being an item you got via the auction..... he was such a treat to speak with...
and Kathys voice was a bit deeper in person than she appears on her cds.... was very nice and raspy....
great night...now I am moving onto my Bonnie Raitt experience.... I am about to take my quitar over now...
more to come later,,,,,,

Jenny, I met Kathy Mattea in the 90's at a show she gave at a festival in our area. She is a supreme professional. One of my favorite songs of hers is "Where've you been" . Kathy is just as gracious as Janis as well. Jenny, did she sing this song? Glad you had fun...1st row seats...lucky you!

YES... she did that song .. And thank goodness she did towards the end of the show.. there was not a dry eye in the house. Awesome song. I also forgot to mention I was able to swip one of her thumbpics....it is now on my quitar strings.
I have my pic ready to post and have put them on the photobucket site. I am now trying to figure how in the *&^%##)(# to post them here......

WOW!! What FABULOUS photos Jenny! Kathy looks great with shorter hair and so do you by the way! And I'd recognize that multi-colored shirt anywhere! It's the one I wanted but oh well!!

The photo of you and Bonnie Raitt is terrific! You should have an 8x10 or a poster made of it. I have a feeling she is one of those performers it isn't that easy to meet, you lucky girl!!

Marcia :)

Loved them, Jenny...you're looking better than ever, and obviously very happy to be where you were at the time! Kathy and Bonnie look wonderful, and your shirt is probably the envy of both of them! You look like you should have been right up there, too! A great experience you had, and the pics don't lie!:D

..... yea, things were alot different in dealing with Bonnie. I heard that she has a stalker so everything was very tight and to the point. But the experience was a chance in a lifetime and an awesome moment to treasure. And you bet enlargements will be made of my pics...
Thanks for all the compliments............. I love my shirt too.... Next week... I will be seeing LILY TOMLIN...................... then ........ STEVIE NICKS ;-)
