View Full Version : Dar Williams debut
Hi Rudies,
just downloaded Dar Williams' debut (?) album "The Honesty Room", released in 1993... and have to recommend it to everyone of you who doesn't know it yet. It's great!
Mimi :)
Found this on Dar's website:
"Live DVD Shoot In Woodstock!Dar's concerts on May 4th and 5th at Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock, NY will be filmed for a live DVD. The DVD is tentatively scheduled to be released in late 2007. Tickets for the shows are open to the public. Come out to Woodstock and be a part of Dar's first-ever live DVD!"

P.S.: Maybe a special tip for our Pirate Queen!?
I would love to be there yes. Wouldn't you, Mimi!?
I am listening to 'Out There Live' for months now. Also I have gotten two CD's of Dar Williams from the CD library just yesterday. What a coincedence! I got 'The Honesty Room' and 'Mortal City'.
Are there more people here who like her music?

The only song of hers with which I am familiar is "The Christians and the Pagans," which I really like. I have to listen to more of her stuff.

Eva,
I downloaded "End of the summer" as well yesterday, and some weeks ago I got Dar's latest cd "My better self". And yes I would really like to see Dar performing live... sigh!
Mimi
I really like 'As Cool As I Am', 'When I Was A Boy', 'The Babysitter's Here', 'The Ocean' and lots of other songs. Even some I don't know yet... :D

From a 2006 concert in Portland, Oregon with Shawn Colvin. Both were absolutely excellent.
I, too, recommend her work to anyone and everyone.
(Adam says she's too "warbly" but he's finicky about the female singer/songwriters that he admires. I'm just glad he agrees with me on how great Janis is or we'd have a problem ;))
Rkitko,
Dar and Shawn performing together! That's more than I could stand!
Just too much. Shawn Colvin was another discovery of mine last year. Any recommendations from your side? Up til now I've got her last album "In these four walls" and "Polaroids".

Mimi, I actually just got into Shawn Colvin's music as well. That concert made me an instant fan, so I don't have any recommendations. But I look forward to the discoveries!
I have seen Dar a million times she is great. The title song of her second CD The Mortal City, at first listen, sounded very JI to me. check it out.
Her third album, The End of Summer is probably her best album. Although they are all great
'
The l;ast few times she played LA, unfortunately she played clubs without seats. opposed to theatre like venue. At 17 I might have been able to handle that, at 50, after working all day. I need to sit.

I had never her Dar Williams before and she is great with the exception that some of her music sounds a little country. Country I don't like, but I can happily listen to it when she sings it. But the blues are so moving I am listening to her music right complaints of c/net. "Two Sides Of The River" is so getting into my soul right now. That song I love. Oh well, Thanks for the continued praise of her because if you guys hadn't done that I would never have discovered her.
Peace, Darlene

Rkitko,
I first saw Shawn Colvin on Mary Chapin Carpenter's live DVD "Jubilee" and that made me curiousn enough to buy two cds at once... and their was nothing to regret... ;)
