On this date last year, it was the eve of the UK LRC in Lewes, England. Those of us who were arriving early and staying the weekend (the weekenders) had arrived and getting to know one another.

On this day last year, the weekenders were up early to await Janis's arrival, and meanwhile, welcoming the day trippers to the LRC.

Thanks to Janis, I got to attend a Living Room Concert and also to meet other Rudies - Rowy and Lynda, ManchesterAnne and her Mike, DavidUK, PeteCC, Strech and Joanne ... oh dear, it's only a year and I can't remember who else ... oh! yes, the other shortie, SongDragon. And also Henry Metcalfe! My apologies if I left anyone out.

Also thanks to Janis, I got to return to England after 17 years. 17! What a great number!

And now, for some visual aid to our fading memories:

Thank you Chet. I wish this message forum was full of reports about Janis concerts all over the world, like it was a year ago.
I remember that I couldnīt wait to open the forum and read the reviews, now it is harder to be here, not the same motivation, infact not much Janis at all:confused:
But we have memories and you have brought one of many back. Thank you Chet for that, loved to look at those pictures again.

Thanks for posting this, Chet!

yes what a fabulous weekend.... spending 4 days with a bunch of rudies on a farm in Sussex, sitting round the kitchen table with Janis and a few others before the LRC, the concert itself with its amazing improvised version of Jackie Skates and Janis sticking around for a late lunch afterwards :)

and the following evening 15 of us piled into the seaside town of Brighton for the first night of Janis's UK tour.

Chet you named quite a few people, but don't forget Marjan, Anna from Dublin too, and Des (long time no see) who met up with us for the Brighton show....

aaaahhhh memories......

Also there (or should I say here) were Chris Heap and Lisa Penny, Charlie and Julie Philpotts, Jak and Sue, David Blake, Sue Probert, Mike UK and wife, Wes, Chris Sawyer, Paul and Gini Cooney. Not to mention a whole bunch of my friends from Brighton who are joining us at 2pm today for an anniversary celebration.

I seem to remember that the weather was kind to us that day - today we are having a mini-heatwave - it has been going on for nearly two weeks now.

Well, I hope to meet Janis and all you UK Rudies and our overseas friends who joined us that day at a future LRC - who knows?

Oh hec..... I LIVED in the South of England til I was 16. I wish I had known about that earlier. I would have got the train down :( Still I DID see Janis afew days later and wondered why I hadn't latched on to all this before. Now the anniversary of that wonderful concert is looming too, and I've still got the tape. I shall attempt to relive that day this week too. :)

Great memories indeed, truly a wonderful weekend. By the way, that was Gini and I's first trip away together, and our relationship has gone really well. Last Tuesday I asked her to marry me and she agreed. Got the ring yesterday and we're both very happy.

Thanks for the memories

Let me be the first to congratulate you then, Paul. Me and Mr Abram reach our Silver Wedding Anniversary this June. I tried to get my original cake maker to make me a little version of the original recipe, but she's making excuses :( I'm sure we'll survive without it though.

Congratulations to you and Gini, Paul!

What a wonderful weekend... My emotions were running very high. I was so confused that I felt on the edge, because it felt like I had woken up in another world (really just in another country) and everything was happening so fast.

That was a great day, sneaking around in a brilliant yellow-green jacket... Fabulous.

~Song

P.S. It really has been too long. I should dig up the little journal entry I made on the train ride to help keep me awake on the way back to my family.

Many thanks to you all for your kind comments. The good company of that weekend, and of course Janis' music and personality, definitely gave us a lovely time and helped cement our relationship.
