Hi there........
I was trying to read a book, called “Bleachers”. The book is about American sport, specifically Football. But, as we play Rugby Football………well, it’s completely different! (To put it mildly!!) I had to put it away, as it was just too hard to read………it took me about a day, to read 2 pages! Reading is difficult enough, but the AMA Football……….whew………is was just too confusing. (my brain, OK ) .
But, there is a few expressions that Americans use, could explain?
“….slot-wibble-right……..”
“Joined the boosters class”
“….at a juco to……” Hmm, maybe Junior Collige?
“…and the noseguard on defence….”
At Rugby, we don’t even wear a helmet!
Bleachers…..ahaa ! At least, I can understand.
I was/am a big Fan, still am, of Bob Dylan, and I heard a line,
........ “We'll just put some bleachers out in the sun
And have it on Highway 61………” (from….. “Highway 61 Revisited”)
I first heard the line, 1967?, which, at the time, I thourt it was a just “made up’ word!………..(after all, Dylan is just Dylan!!...right? Well, wrong, OK!
It too be about 5 or 6 years, before I found out that “Bleachers” was the right expressions. Aha….sitting in the sun, sitting on a bench, during a game.
As I said, the expressions of American Sport is verry different!! I think, NZ would be “bench” father than “Bleachers”.
Whey………now I’m reading a book, called “My Grandfather”. It seems appropriate! At least, I can read it, 5 pages a day, and I think I will be able to finish it. (A library book…28 days.) I have read it for 9 days…………..so…keeping on, keeping on!
