Good afternoon all,
some troubling news; Mom and Dad went over to check on Randy at 1am Saturday morning after he sounded bad on the phone. My folks got him some medical things he needed and last night, Mom said Randy didn't sound good again so she had him call 9-1-1. Randy was admitted back into the hospital with a temperature of 105. The Doctors believe it's another infection and Randy is having a great deal of pain in his legs and feet as well. He can barely walk. Please keep him in your prayers. I took my husband to the airport at 4am today so he's gone for a week (work) my daughter and family are still staying at my house so I'm keeping busy and I'm waiting for the insurance people to call as last friday my husband was involved in an automobile accident. A young driver, not paying attention, drove right into his lane. Take care and I will keep you all posted on Randy.

:( Hello all,
sorry that this is late in the evening Daylight Savings time on the east coast, however, I have my hands really, really full right now. I just spoke with my parents and ...well, Randy still has a temperature of 102. Mom said Randy told her that he has an infection in his blood...however, my parents hadn't spoken to the Dr today, just Randy so I'm not sure exactly where the infection is but I will have to trust him. Hopefully there will be news from the DR tomorrow that is better. Redjack, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THE PHONE CALL TODAY. I have nobody to talk to about all that is going on without upsetting family members so I just let them all vent to me and I am still caring for my daughter and her family while she recovers. I am averaging 18 to 19 hour days. It was nice to hear a friendly voice. I appreciate your friendship. Give my best to Cathy. To all of you that post in response to my updates, thank you so very much. I honestly feel the strength that you have offered though your sentiments. Good night for now, Becky
My continued thoughts and prayers for you all, Becky.
Let's hope they get that infection cleared up soon!

Our best to you and Randy, as always; Sis, too, and folks. Have they ever told you what Randy's infection is? Well, at least his temp is back down to a manageable level for the nonce, and I sure hope he is starting to feel a bit better. Have they checked for sponges and forceps, yet? Kidding, but not.
Love to you all and VIBES from Cinci! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!:D

Hello all,
I spoke with Randy this morning and he is still in the hospital, still being pumped with antibiotics. His feeding port caused the last infection, as I suspected and made him septic. A new port was put in and the specialist is fighting the bacteria they have finally identified as the culprit. Anyone that enters his room now must be clothed in medical scrubs, etc. All precautions are being taken. Randy told me that when they couldn't originally get his headache and 105 temp to break, he thought he was going to die...for real; he thought it was over. He sounds a bit weak today and they are hoping to get him home in the next few days but I told him not to allow them to discharge him if he didn't feel well enough; at least at the hospital he can get help if needed. Anyhow, that's the latest. The continue to explore new antibiotics that will allow the surgical site to heal quicker from the inside out...will have to see how that goes. My husband is home from Florida and I think my daughter and family will be going home tomorrow. Take care and thanks for your encouragement. Becky

Hi everyone,
no real change to speak of...taking things one day at a time; healing does move slowly. My daughter and her family are back in their apartment and all seems to be going okay. I worked 11 hours Monday and 12 and a half hours today at my job...it really is awful right now. I have been with my organization over 26 years (Federal Government) now. Had I not had a break in service when I was younger, I would have credit for nearly 30 years of Government time. Ugh! The situation at work is terrible and I so wish I could afford to retire, however, I don't have the age to retire and begin pulling my pension, I have enough time to retire but I would have to find another job in order to supplement the time between now and when I could pull my pension which would be about 10 years and quite frankly, I could not make the amount of $$ that I am making now to afford to do that. Trying not to stress as much about the job as I was; if my supervisors don't care about the problems, I will do the best I can with what they have given me to work with and if that's not enough, perhaps then they will begin to recognize that changes need to be made. Sorry folks, I digress. Hope you are all well and thanks for your support. I pray that for every kind word you all have provided me with comes back to you all tenfold. Thanks for everything.
Becky

Hi Becky - I feel for you! My partner is going through exactly the same thing!!! She's not quite 58 and if she retires now from the government she'll get a lot less retirement. She doesn't even think she can stomach it until 62!!! I have another 16 years until I'm 65, but at least I don't hate my job! I hope it gets better for you! Please try not to stress out!!!

:( Good evening everyone,
I just spoke to my folks and the news on Randy is that he is not doing well. He is very, very weak, his feet and legs are swollen again and therefore elevated. His white blood count is getting higher ...again and it seems that the specialist on the infection is a top notch guy and although Randy and my folks like him and think he really knows his stuff, the damn infection continues to throw them curves. It now appears that Randy may be septic...again ...from the whole ordeal with his colon. Nonetheless, Mom said that Randy is very weak, tired and doesn't know if he'll ever get out of the hospital. I am totally sure that this entire ordeal has wiped him out. I am probably going to drive up there first thing in the morning...although my parents said there is nothing I can do, and they are concerned about me with all I have had to deal with, I believe I need to go. Please continue to hold me up with your prayers, well wishes, good thoughts, whatever voice you want to give to your positive vibes...please keep me there until we get through this. Bless you all, for everything. I will keep you posted. Thanks,
Becky

I just spoke with Becky a few minutes ago, she's on her way up to visit Randy. As she said, it seemed a good day for a drive. Beckys dealing with a lot on her plate but she did seem to be in good spirits and repeatedly commented on just how thankful she is for the support we all have given her. And on Becky's behalf, I thank everyone as well for the support and caring they have expressed to someone who's become rather dear to me.
Very strong and positive thoughts beaming their way to Randy and you!
That is such a pernicious infection that Randy has...I do hope he has the strength and the good meds to fight it off. Hello everyone,
As Redjack told you in his post, I drove up North to Randy and my parents. I got up at 5am, went to work, left at 11am and drove to Washington, DC area...I spoke to Redjack enroute. I picked up my parents and we went to the hospital...Randy is in a brand new wing of the hospital and it is very clean and beautiful. Although Randy seemed very weak, we were able to visit and I left for about an hour to take care of personal business on Randy's behalf. Upon my return, the Dr's assistant had been in and my parents were able to ask questions along with Randy. The medical staff was to run an ecocardio test of some sort today to ensure that Randy's heart was strong and that there was no fluid or whatever building up around it. If all goes well, and his temperature, blood pressure, sugar levels, etc were remaining good (they were good when I was there) he might be able to go home tonight or tomorrow. Randy is still very weak as he has not been able to get up and walk due to the swelling in his feet and the pain involved, however, the Dr's believe the longer he is in the hospital he is more vulnerable to many bacterias there as opposed to being at home where he is in a more controlled enviornment. The key is to send him home when the infection is improving and all the vitals are good. His white blood count is steadily coming down again to a more managable level with antibiotics...it was about 11,000 yesterday...down from 20,000 the day before. I thought Randy looked pretty good and despite being tired and weak from all he's been through, he was in good spirits considering it all. Randy has not had food in 55 days now; just the liquid protein being fed through the med port. I spoke to him on my way home from work today...(yes, after we left the hospital last night, I took my parents to dinner and at 9pm drove home, arriving just past midnight this morning, then off to work this morning) and Randy had just finished the test and was awaiting the results. Someone was supposed to be coming by to show him how to administer the antibiotics he is now on...not sure what that was going to involve, however, it is one step closer to him coming home. I pray that this is the beginning of good health and recovery for Randy with no more complications to follow. I thank you all for your love and support for my brother and for my family. Have a wonderful Easter weekend and know that I am blessed this season with having you all with me on this journey. I will post again tomorrow. Becky
p.s. Thanks Redjack!

Thank you! I think your words were wonderful. I did take a rest today when I got home...for a couple of hours. I am just now having a light meal since it is a bit late for a regular meal. I plan on getting a good nights rest tonight and taking it somewhat easy tomorrow. Thanks for your friendship and constant thoughts of our family. I understand what you are saying and I appreciate your friendship.

The power of the bod to recover never ceases to amaze me! Randy's numbers sound good, getting better for sure...but I'm still keeping those super strong antibiotic vibes coming until he's totally out of the woods.
You're an amazing force in his life, Becky! Without you, I'm sure he wouldn't be here now, and getting ready to come home...wow, what a thought!
I sure hope he can stay home this time. Give him a huge hug from me when you think he can stand it. ;) Glad you're taking a rest, yourself...gotta stay strong for him and us and you, too! Thanks for all you do, and for keeping us informed...so important to his online family.
Hugs all around!
Randy is still very weak as he has not been able to get up and walk due to the swelling in his feet and the pain involved, however, the Dr's believe the longer he is in the hospital he is more vulnerable to many bacterias there as opposed to being at home where he is in a more controlled enviornment.
That's the best idea I've heard so far, Becky. May Randy regain his health at home where he belongs!

First of all, JANIS...Randy would want me to wish you a Happy Birthday!!! Don't know if you will read this, however, happy wishes for you on your special day from Randy and Becky.
Now, I just spoke with Randy within the hour and his white blood count numbers are down to 9,000...the lowest they've been this entire ordeal!!! The doctors are preparing him to go home today, hopefully by 4pm this afternoon. His test he had yesterday was perfect; no problems. The hospital is setting up times for the health care professionals to go by Randy's home to set up the equipment he will need (again) and they are continuing to ensure he will be able to administer the antibiotics into the machines as instructed. Randy sounded stronger on the phone today than yesterday and for all of you that want me to give him a hug...well, even I couldn't do that the other day as we didn't want to risk introducing any new bacteria so when he is ready and his health is strong, he will get a big hug for sure. I told Randy that I would check on him later and make sure he got home safely...I will definetly let you all know.
Never under estimate the power all of you, his internet family, have had on his recovery. Although he is not yet 100%, he is on his way and all of you are a part of that. I will post again this evening so that you will all know if Randy made it home. Thanks for your continued support. Becky
