Brazilian housewife convicted of killing, cooking husband

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - A Brazilian housewife was convicted and sentenced to 19 years in prison Friday for killing her husband, chopping his corpse into small pieces and frying it.

Rosanita Nery dos Santos, 52, was sentenced by Judge Casio Miranda in northeastern Bahia state after a 15-member jury found her guilty of killing retired police officer Jose Raimundo Soares dos Santos, court spokesman Francisco Ribeiro said.

Authorities said the killing occurred almost two years ago in Vila Sao Cosme, a lower-middle-class neighbourhood in the Bahia state capital Salvador, 1,500 kilometres northeast of Sao Paulo.

"On June 23, 2005, Rosanita Nery dos Santos drugged her husband and stabbed him to death while he slept," Idmar Bonfim, a spokesman for the Salvador Civil Police Department said.

"She then hacked his body into more than 100 pieces, which she boiled and fried before hiding them in plastic bags underneath the staircase of her house."

He said police discovered the body parts after receiving an anonymous phone call.

Bonfim said the killing was either part of a black magic ritual or an attempt "to get her hands on his life insurance money worth about 70,000 reals (C$40,000)."

Citing testimony from the woman's relatives, he said she may have committed the crime "to avenge many years of humiliation from her husband."

He did not provide further details.

Santos denied killing her husband but said she chopped up his body, Bonfim said.

"She claims masked assailants entered her house, killed her husband and then forced her to cut up the body and fry it because that would prevent the stench of a decomposing body from alerting neighbours."

Oh no Dave M, That has really made me sick. I was just sitting here eating of all things Chicken. I know I turned green then white then green then white reflecting off the walls of the throne. I don't think I will ever eat chicken again. I think I will give up meat become a vegetarian! I know every thing tasts like chicken. But a human body while you are eating chicken is too much. I am glad I made it to the bathroom or I would have been buying a keyboard! Bad boys Dee and Dave!
No peace here,
Darlene

Should we tie this thread in with Redjack and Eva's S&M themed barbecue event?

I may regret posting this, but you can always try "hufu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hufu)" to find out what humans taste like (on a purely academic level, of course).

And then there is always "Soylent Green," of course.

Is Hufu at all related to Hummus?

Rkitko

Nope. Hummus is made from chickpeas and tahini. Hufu is flavored tofu, which is made from the curds of soy milk. (Though hufu is reported to be a hoax, perhaps. It was featured on a segment of The Daily Show.)

Since hufu is supposed to represent the taste of cooked human flesh, hufu might actually be closer to humus than hummus. ;)

I can't stand Tofu either, Eva!!!! I still think it tastes of, at worst....absolutely nothing, or at best some very badly cooked scrambled egg, the sort Mr Abram cooks.... Love Hummus though :)

I like to use it for texture.....plain it just tastes bland (yes, I have tried it):o

tofu is great in fruit smoothies, puddings, and vegetable stir fry's...among many other things.:)

My favorite use for tofu is in chili. Obtain the firmest tofu you can and freeze it. Right before you make your chili however you like it, defrost the tofu and squeeze all the water out of it as you crumble it into your chili. Freezing it makes it crumble a little easier and also allows for a greater surface area for it to soak up the chili spices. I've found that tofu picks up most flavors in whatever it's cooked in. You just have to make it small enough.

Just had a light Chinese lunch with the boyfriend. I had Spring Rolls. He had one Spring Roll and hot & sour soup. In the rich dark broth I spotted cubes of tofu floating around which looked very much like cubed erasers.

Guess they don't call it toe food for nuthin. :p

The huge potted plant at my back has been reading this thread over my shoulder. It just said it wants to try tufu. It would help with the awkward problem of my postmen and delivery boys vanishing one by one. Locking up the animals, and going to the supermarket now...
