Mike--no idea on sardines, but gout is caused by too much uric acid in the system if I remember right. There are effective treatments for it, but I'd recommend a trip to the doctor for a good checking-over just as soon as you can manage it.

Mike:
I did a quick search. Basically, sardines would be among the WORST things to eat if you have gout. More info here: http://arthritis.about.com/cs/gout/a/foodstoavoid.htm

Amy is right Mike, Sardines are one of the worst things you could eat! (in relation to gout).

Ouchies, Mike
That must be very painful, and Amy is right, rich food is contraindicated and sardeines fall into that cateogry. There is an episode of the cartoon "King of the Hill" where the Bobby character, a little boy, develops gout after becoming addicted to creamed herring at a local deli.
Listen to your doc and take care of yourself.
