Hello friends, this is Judy with some recent wild parrot film news:
1) The film will screen at Theatre 39 @ PIER 39 April 23, 24, and 25,
with a
reception prior to this Sunday's screening. It's a chance to see it on
the Big Screen in a comfy theatre, and to pick up signed books and
DVDs, all
to benefit the "Wild Parrot Habitat Fund." Mark and I will answer
questions
after each show. Details here: http://www.tix.com/Event.asp?Event=54773
2) PBS's national television series, "Independent Lens," will
broadcast the
film during its 2006-2007 series; exact date to follow. We're pleased that
it will be on public television, free to all!
3) Sweden's Channel 2 broadcast the film last Friday, and we've been
getting
lots of email from folks who liked it and want to come to San Francisco.
4) The Animal Planet will air the U.S. Humane Society's gala Beverly Hills
"Genesis Awards" ceremony on May 6th (which was taped March 18th).
Mark and
I had fun sitting next to the farmer from "Babe," James Cromwell, who also
presented us with the award for "Outstanding Documentary Feature." On the
Animal Planet Saturday, May 6th at 5 PM EDT.
5) I'll be on a panel with the producers from "March of the Penguins" and
"Grizzly Man" at the International Wildlife Film Festival in Missoula,
Montana in late May, where the film will pick up an award for "Best
Independent Film." This is satisfying, because all other wildlife film
festivals to which we've applied have flat-out rejected it! (I think
there's
a prejudice against urban, non-native species among "nature film"
purists.)
6) Mark has set up a new web site, http://www.markbittner.net, which is
intended to gather all of his material together from various other sites
(parrot pages from pelican media, book info from wildparrotsbook.com
etc.).
The site is rudimentary at the moment but he'll add new material soon,
including bios of Connor and Mingus, new photos, and historical diary
entries. Mark is currently on a much-needed vacation.
7) We will have an official announcement shortly about the cypress trees.
All parties had a good meeting at the Mayor's office two weeks ago and the
wording of the final agreement is being hammered out now.
8) DVD sales are going well, we hear. There will be a U.K. version coming
out June 28th (available on Amazon), and an Australia/New Zealand version,
available for purchase on May 17. The U.S. DVD is encoded "0" -- "All
Region" -- so it should also play everywhere. (Amazon claims it's region 1
but that's an error. We haven't been able to figure out how to get them to
correct it!) If you purchase from our web site, it helps our nonprofit:
