hi Judy,
i have a question for you. why it came to me , i don't know, i'm not even sure i should be asking but i am. and i have my reasons too, i mean i really wonder how long all this lasts, i'm almost 40 and my siblings...4 are younger and 4 are older, does age make a difference. i know it won;t ever for my dad, but what about my siblings?
my question, and you don;t have to answer if you choose not to
when, in your life, did you decide to not only accept but come to love the fact that your sister is gay? acceptance is one thing, but it doesn;t make it ok. when did it become ok for you?
thank you
peace

Um....Dave I'm not sure that's a good idea
Hey Hoops,
Maybe it's a nice question to ask all siblings on this MB. What do you think?
----------
I'll start: I have one brother who is 6 1/2 years older than me. I always suspected he was straight. And indeed he turned out to be straight. At first I had a hard time with it. I mean... he was so... different... you know... And I found his eyeing the ladies quite provocative. But he is my brother and that's all that matters. To be honest, I don't give a thingy who he is attracted to.
Eva
It's not exactly what you asked, Noel, but I like Eva's idea.
Well, I never thought that one of my two younger sisters (Judith 3 years younger, Ruth 10 years younger) might be gay... They've always been attracted to boys. Sometimes I was quite amused about the fact that my parents were worried about my sisters' boyfriends while - in the shadow of my sisters - I was looking for my girl...
When Rachel and I had finally found each other - I was 26 then - it was my 16 year old sister who came to me, sat down on my bed and told me: "Well, I've known it, you're gay and she's your lover, isn't she." She said that in a way that made me cry, so free, so open and with so much solidarity and knowing very well what was to come when I'd introduce my girlfriend to my very CATHOLIC parents. There's never been any problem with this sister and her attitude towards us means that much to me.
My other sister, Judith, found it difficult to accept me as I am when I came out to her and it took some months until the ice finally broke again between us. But today, Rachel and I have been together for 13 years now, everything is ok and our relationship is a good and loving one.

I have one twin sister. What can I say? For a while we were on edgy ground with each other, and then everything sorted itself out and we realized we had simply gotten older, we didn't care about each other any less. Neither of us are sure if we're gay or straight. If we saw a female we were attracted to I don't think it would bother either of us. So far, though, it's always the cute guys that get to us.
One time, though, surfing the web (which is a very good way to get your eyeballs permanently bleached), we saw a picture of a set of twins kissing each other. Apparently someone's fantasy. And she said something that made me laugh, and I just couldn't stop laughing, "Sorry, hon, I'm not narcissistic enough to love you that way."
From here on out, I'm not worried about our relationship (except for the impact it has on boyfriends, they don't like it when you spend more time with your twin than them... they don't get it that you've known your twin a whole hell of a lot longer).

eva, all of you, thank you for your response. with 8 siblings who'd have thought i'd be the black sheep. if they are happy i am happy with them and for them. i was reminded just yesterday of where my place is, no college, no husband , no kids, a mental illness that my father still believes( after almost 2o years ) is just a sign of weakness. i have tattoos and wear jeans to church ( i have the nerve to go to Mass ). for goodness sake i don;t even like the right kind of music! I just wonder when i'll be old enough to be taken seriously and to be ok just the way i am in my family. i didn;t ask the question to shock or inspire or anything like that, i asked cause it's obvious that Judy does love her sister and her sister in law, she's not too far from my age and she might have an answer.

Wow. What a loaded question.
I don’t “love the fact my sister is gay” and I don’t “dislike the fact my sister is gay”. It is simply irrelevant. It was never an issue about which I had to consciously make a decision. It is what is. My sister is gay. I’m straight. My sister has red hair. I have brown hair. My sister is Jewish. I’m Christian. No thought. No process. No decisions. She’s my baby sister. I love her – always have, always will – red hair or not!

Phew! Glad to hear that, Judy. ;)
Hmm, I try to lighten the mood and nobody even notices...

Take note, all, that Janis does not mention what SHE got that Christmas.
No, I have no idea and I'm not asking.
But tell us, Janis, are you able to love JudyR despite the fact that she has Big Hair?

As some of you may know I am a hair stylist living in Texas. At the end of the day all of you should know that hair is hair. Hair may be considered fine, medium or course. Hair may also be described as straight, wavy, curly or overly curly. It's all determined by genetics, and folks in Texas don't have hair any bigger than anywhere else on Earth. The difference is that ladies in Texas know how to fix their hair so that it looks big, because everyone knows that big hair looks good. We also know that one can never apply too much blue eye shadow. Judy was simply raised right, bless her heart!

I was once traveling to Texas and being met at the airport by a friend I'd never seen face to face before. She said: "oh,you'll have no trouble recognizing me--big hair and blue eye shadow". I said I thought she'd probably have to be more specific (which proved to be true)--she had no idea what I was talking about.

I absolutely adore my sister-in-law. True, she has big hair, and a mouth to go with it. True, she's incredibly opinionated. True, she wears eye makeup even at the beach. But all that pales beside our second Christmas together, when she welcomed me into the family - loudly.

When I went through Texas on my cross-country excursion we met up with a friend of mine. She had always told me if I came to Texas and we found somewhere to meet she would not be hard to spot. She's 6'2" and has bright red curly hair. She called herself the six foot amazon. I had no problem finding her, after getting over the problem of getting lost.
Hehe, sisters are great. Especially ones with big mouths. That way they dig their own holes and you can laugh with them as you pull them out (or vice versa).
I definitely want to read more about that, too.

Song....have you ever considered having Big Hair?
SongDragon
02-25-2007, 12:56 AM
Haven't you seen my hair?!
All twenty-two inches of it are always either standing on end from static electricity, violently messy after the wind in Las Vegas blows it all over, or flat and lifeless. It cant exactly be Big, becuase it's quite thin, but it can really give quite a show when it's feeling staticky.
I stopped bothering with hair styles past eighteen inches... Most of the hair dressers look at my hair with too much glee for the possibilities.
I'll take big hair over staticky hair any day, though! But I don't seem to get a say in the matter.

Hey, Song--you look great, and I hope the people around you remind you of that often. Besides, you're not from Texas, so Big Hair is optional. As is blue eye shadow, which I don't think would suit you well either. When you meet the right guy and he runs his fingers through your hair, you'll know that it's just right and never mind the hairdressers.
Has anyone out there heard the Chenille Sisters song, "Big Hair"? Definitely worth looking for. I don't think they have a download on their site, but the lyrics ought to be out there somewhere.
Incidentally, the domain name "www.bighair.com" is available, rather astonishingly. Perhaps Judy would like to have her own web site?

I lived with a woman in texas for a while...in a little city called odessa ( now known in the film "friday night lights") her hair was at the back no longer than half an in on top no longer than an inch and it took her AN ENTIRE HOUR to do her hair everyday. i can't say i know how long it should take cause mine was even shorter at the time. but an hour??? does that make sense, even in texas?

Did she comb each hair seperately, Hoops?
I can be quite vain and dressing up, doing my hair and doing my make-up can take a while. But my hair is usually done within 10 minutes (drying, combing, gel) What do people do in an entire hour???
Eva
(PS: if someone works an hour on their hair I get all evil and I feel like throwing waterbombs at their hairdo... heheheh... :p )
Hoops,
that reminds me of my husband. I can find it incredibly annoying at times I must admit. I could get myself showered dressed and all 4 of my kids bathed, dressed and all that intails and be ready to go somewhere BY MYSELF in 45 minutes and still have to wait for him while he finished playing with his hair.?.?.?.he uses gels, hairspray you name it--in his short hair.
And he cannot get out of the car without looking at himself in the mirror first. he has actually refused many times to go somewhere or get out of the car because it was windy and it would mess up his hair. I kid you not!!!! And it is not funny--I just don't get it--who really cares? It's his only real fault though (vanity).
