" "First Light" The Holy Grail of all Wishbone Ash recordings to be Released!

As most of you know from reading the Wishbone Ash® Newsletter, that over the past few months I have alluded to an announcement that would rock the world of Wishbone Ash®. Well, now is the time to make it official with the pending CD release of "First Light."

Back in late 1969 or early 1970, a very young Wishbone Ash® (Andy Powell, Ted Turner, Martin Turner and Steve Upton) made an album of songs in hopes of securing a record deal with a major label. This album was recorded in the dead of night at AdVision Studios in the UK. Upon completion it was then sent over to Apple Corps LTD in London for mastering

For over 35 years, these recordings have remained forgotten in the Apple vaults gathering dust. Recently, however, Christie's Auctions put this acetate of these special recordings up for purchase through their online auction house where it was bid on and won by collector extraordinaire, Dr. John. Dr. John then contacted Andy Powell about the find and offered them back to him to do with as he pleased in hopes that they would be released for all the fans of the band to enjoy.

What makes these recordings so special is the energy and enthusiasm displayed on every song played. "First Light" has a rawness and edge that the first official recording on MCA lacks. Plus it contains two songs never released anywhere before.

This special artifact contains the first known recordings of: Lady Whiskey, Roads of Day to Day (unreleased), Blind Eye, Joshua (unreleased), Queen of Torture, Alone (with vocals), Handy, and Errors of My Way. The recording of Handy on this disk is worth the price of admission alone.

Barry Riddington at Talking Elephant has since purchased the rights to these recordings and will be releasing "First Light" on April 2, 2007.

We all owe Dr. John a very special thanks for making this, the Holy Grail of all Wishbone Ash recordings, available for the first time for all to enjoy.
I expect Guy Roberts to inform me very shortly as to when we will be able to start taking preorder for this historic recording."

Just posted a copy of the email I got a couple of days ago. This is Classic Stuff.... Alone.....with vocals....can't wait :)

Hi Aabram, thanks for your efforts in getting the word out on "First Light"! I had known there were early recordings for many years. When I interviewed the band members there were whisperings of early material recorded. But none of the band members had any of those recordings! When I purchased the Apple Acetate entitled "Wishbone Ash" I had no idea what material was on it! You can imagine the joy and excitement I had when I played the record and heard the different song versions and the un-released material!! When I spoke with Andy Powell about this, he had totally forgot about these recordings and was quiet excited to hear the un-released songs. The song "Roads of Day to Day" had a titled, but "Joshua" was an un-titled track. I came up with the titled thinking it sounded like a happy - go - lucky hobo without a care in the world, but was totally happy with himself! I am very pleased to share this with the band and the fans of Wishbone Ash!
You are Welcome! Dr. John

First I must say welcome indeed, Dr John, and my daughter and I are going to see Andy at the Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh on April 11th. First Light brings back a whole heap of memories and some I didn't have before :) I have since joined both Andy and Mart's message boards, and have made friends there too. Thankyou for being the cause of such a wonderful album. Fans all over the world are truly grateful and I have been one since the first time Argus came out in 1972

David, it was only a matter of time before Dr John found us, and I'm sure he googled it. It's a real honour to have him here. I can burn you a selection of their music, and First Light is a major find by Dr John himself :)

Dr John, join in the fun here. Listen to Janis and be stunned her amazing guitar-playing. Any Wishbone Ash fan will surely love Janis too.

So glad I have guessed something right for a change. The bad feelings towards me in recent weeks don't make for a hospitable climate, and everyone makes mistakes. Stressful weeks behind and ahead are not helped by hostility. Perhaps a break from everything is what I need. I think I will take this as an Easter Break probably until well into April as negative comments aren't helping my confidence any. See you on the Wishbone Ash Board, Dr John.

Dr John, I still look in every day. I just have very little time at present, what with my forthcoming trip to Leicester next week and then the APWA concert on April 11th. I still stay in touch with my friends though, and I'll email you tonight. My daughter's wedding last Saturday went according to plan.
