Pray for me, I'm gonna be snow-bound for three days with my mother.

I need direction.
Is the problem being snow bound or being with your mother
or both :D

Ouch! If that was my mother I think I would brave the snow, I know I would be safer. Prayers are flying out to you and big ruddie vibes for peace!
Be calm, Darlene

Be safe! My partner lives out in Ohio and he's worried about this storm, too.
(By the way, Bryan, I thought you were near Seattle? How did I miss the move to birthplace of aviation?)

A hard snow's a'gonna fall. And strangely, none of it is falling in Minnesota. We are being plagued by water main breaks because with the lack of snow the frost is going really deep. If this was summer, we'd be under serious drought conditions.

It's looking abit murky over here too....  But not cold enough for snow :)
Be safe, Bryan.
It's headed UP to my part of Canada too (talk about ironic) although I don't think Ottawa will get hit unbearably hard.

We are anticipating as much as 2 feet here.
I can't help be be kinda excited like a kid. Even though it means snow removal and bad driving conditions, there's nothing like a good dumping of snow. Hopefully enough will fall overnight that I will have an excuse to stay home. Given that most of what I do I can do from home, it shouldn't be too hard!

As usual, you guys add humor and perspective to most any situation. Rkitko, I moved back to Ohio in '05. Many more Janis Ian concerts in this neck of the woods, at least within a few hours' drive.

Dave and I were among the people grabbing milk off the shelves at the supermarket last night. That's where the really dangerous conditions were. People around here will tear your arm off for the last pack of hot dogs.
And we're only supposed to get a couple of inches.
Brian, protective Rudie vibes are heading your way. I feel for you. I was disappointed that my mother insisted on being cremated because I was kinda looking forward to driving the stake through her heart....

BRING IT ON!!! Have laptop and VPN service at work, a full freezer and a well stocked bar. As long as the ice storm (and related power outage) stays away, I'm good to go.
Bryan, stay warm. And don't let your mother drive you crazy. And the other way around, by the way.
Dave, Minnesota is obviously a very special place :D

We had a little bit of snow this morning, now it is an icy rain. The federal government shut down at 1400 today in DC. I am home with my four neurotic cats to keep me warm. Mr. Oak has braved the elements to go to Annapolis with a friend to catch an act at the Ram's Head Tavern. This has the potential to be a very nasty ice storm - which can wreak a lot more havoc than plain old snow.
Heading outside now to make sure the birdies have enough food. . .

Minnesota is "special" in the same sense that "special education" is. I hope that translates.

New York state is getting hammered (especially northwestern part) Some places got 11 feet of snow. We are getting the snow and sleet today here in the Hudson Valley. Everything is basically closed. I don't mind snow but I don't do ice. We really can't complain...this is the first snowstorm our area has seen all year. We are expected to see ~2 feet. Glad I can work from home when need be.

I'm in heaven.. I'm in heaven! Snow everywhere, not a lot but enough for me to have had some fun in the jeep in the wee hours of the morning. It was all fun and games until the mundanes got up and started in to work and clogged up my travel lanes with timid driving.
No i'm not one of those clowns that believes an SUV makes you invincible, but i do enjoy having a good time whenever possible.. cautious when need be, and a full bore lunatic when i can get away with it!
Freezing rain and a wintry mix in the wee hours made a nice crunchy crust to the unspoiled parking lot sprawl and that proved completely irresistable to me and Chinngis (my jeep) Needless to say, there isn't an unspoiled parking lot within miles now :D

So Redjack, you mean you don't drive like this?

You can't tell in the video, but those are pretty steep hills those people were on. Idiots! But as you can tell, Portlanders (Oregon) aren't used to freezing rain and sleet.

lol No thats not my driving style at all.. well most of the time anyway, if i can find a spot where i'm not in danger of hitting anyone or anything, i'll do a powerslide in a heartbeat.
found out a few years ago that dad during his youth ran bootleg whiskey down in virginia, he showed me how to do a proper bootleggers turn and a few other moves. All those years I thought dad was so uptight only to find out now what a maniac he was in his youth.
Shows what i know though, i assumed Portland got weather like that on a fairly regular basis.

I planned to, but only because the legends say you can't keep a really mean vampire down. You're also supposed to cut off the head and bury it somewhere else.
But burying it in snow doesn't count, so wait at least till spring...:D

Snow and ice only once or twice a year. This year was abnormal, we have several snow "storms" in a row (a dusting of snow maybe up to an inch shuts all services down around here...)
This week so far we've been enjoying 50 degree weather during the day and nice, clear skies. :D

to me, every car is four wheel drive as long as you know how to not get stuck and stop with care...the rest is up to the traffic and when there is none, it's up to me yayyyyy
Ponytail, you worry me... Is Darlene one of your 'fine' neighbours too?
Dave, it translates very well :D
