I can't beleive no one has posted anything here yet.

Yeah, I know.. Janis wasn't on the list. Personally, I think she should have been, but I can't control that!

So what did ya all think?

Did the Dixie Chicks deserve what they got?

Is Carrie Underwood the real deal?

Did Corinne get shafted?

Has Mary Blige really grown up?

Did the Dixie Chicks deserve what they got? For music? Not really. The album was good, but not as good as some of the other nominees. For general sassiness? Sure

Is Carrie Underwood the real deal? Yes, but I wish they'd package her differently. She seems more jeans than glam.

Did Corinne get shafted? Not really. She's a great singer songwriter and will have plenty more chances.

Has Mary Blige really grown up? Yup. I think she finally understands that she's not exempt from the laws of chemistry.

Wow I forgot The Police were going to be on the Grammys. I knew I should have DVRed it. I don't think I could have watched it all so I could have just went to the Police were and then watched it. I only have liked on song that the dixie chicks have done and they were the only one I knew anything about. My daughter kinds of screeds my music for me she is good at knowing what I like and she hasn't referred anything that I knew about that was on the grammys. Oh well I guess the performance is already on utube. I will check there.
Peace, Darlene

Tell me about it. Catherine lost one of my treasured Wishbone Ash CDs :( She still hasn't told me when she's going to replace it  I've met Stuart Copeland's brother, Miles. Wishbone Ash were for a while under Miles Copeland's management

The older I get, the less I can stomach award shows of any kind. When Dave watches the Tonys every year, I'm online or listening to music. I hear they're thinking of revoking my membership in the International Gay Men's Fellowship, but are hesitating because of the sheer number of recordings by female vocalists in my collection...

"Folk is the New Black" was completely overlooked!

The Police (bless their hearts) chose "Roxanne" as the first televised song of their big regrouping? Give me a freakin' break. I could take no more than 20 seconds of any of it.

(PS: Amy there is a Grammys thread in the Janis Ian forum which I started the other day.)

I can't watch this stuff at all. I personally don't see the fascination, but i don't watch any of the 'reality' shows either..

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rock trio the Police played their first major public show in more than 20 years on Sunday, when they opened the Grammy Awards ceremony, whetting fans' appetite for an expected world tour.

Frontman Sting, guitarist Andy Summers, and drummer Stewart Copeland dusted off a jazzy version of their breakthrough hit "Roxanne" for an audience of about 12,000 at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The Police ended their seven-year run following their 1984 world tour for the album "Synchronicity," which included the Grammy-winning song of the year "Every Breath You Take."

Sting, now 55, the group's primary songwriter, wanted more creative freedom, and has gone on to enjoy a successful solo career. His estranged colleagues, Summers, 64, and Copeland, 54, have dabbled in various projects but never managed to recapture their glory days.

The band will hold a news conference in Los Angeles on Monday where it is expected to announce a world tour.

(I just wish they'd picked a better song to come back with. Oy!)

Police to kick off reunion tour in Vancouver (http://www.cbc.ca/arts/music/story/2007/02/12/police-tour.html)

Monday, February 12, 2007 | 3:03 PM ET

The Police reunion tour will begin May 28 in Vancouver and include at least two other Canadian dates, the band announced Monday.

The influential 1980s band, which played its hit Roxanne at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, will begin its first tour in 23 years at GM Place in Vancouver, members said after performing for select fans at Whisky A Go Go club in West Hollywood.

Toronto's Air Canada Centre on July 21 and Montreal's Bell Centre on July 25 will be among the arena and stadium venues for the tour, the first since they disbanded in 1984.

Singer Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers have had solo careers since breaking up in 1984 after the Synchronicity tour.

The Police had a string of hits from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. They include Don't Stand So Close to Me, Every Breath You Take and Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.

Since the breakup, the band has performed at its induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Other confirmed shows for the spring-summer tour include the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee and Madison Square Gardens in New York, as well as in Seattle, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, New Orleans and St. Louis.

The tour will continue this fall with dates in the U.K., the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and France, and is expected to continue in Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

Rock trio Fiction Plane will open for the Police in the North American portion of the tour.

A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be donated to WaterAid, an international agency that improves access to safe water.

There was a lifetime award for Joan Baez. I think it would be more fair to give that one to Janis this year, as it was her 30th, 40th, etc. celebration for almost everything :(

I thought most of the performances were lackluster. I admire the Dixie Chick's lyric's to "Not ready to make nice", but the total product is a bit sterile for me. The Police were pretty tight, but I too am sick of "Roxanne". For me the highlight was Smokey Robinson, showing the current crop of so-called R&Bers what real soulful music is about. Then, I saw Prince hit the stage, during a show that was supposed to feature surprises, only to have him briefly announce the over-rated Miss Beyonce while not gracing us with a performance. The only award show I remotely enjoy anymore is the annual "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" induction show.

Er... I'm thinking my chances of a Grammy nomination, let alone award, are nil after writing "The Internet Debacle" and "Fallout"...

Oh I dunnooo. I wouldn't be too awful sure 'bout that when you consider the way things are proceeding. Of course your fingers are far deeper into "the industry" than mine and you'd probably be aware of any way the winds are currently blowing so to speak - BUT - as I understand it, the radio stations are still boycotting the Dixie Chicks and they won anyway now didn't they? You just never know..... Hang in there and you just might be surprised, at least I hope that you are. Also, remember the year that the 'independent' music from the movie 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou' virtually swept the awards? It was a very similar story. It -can- happen.

Well, I watched the whole spectacle (though apparently missed the 15 seconds devoted to Joan's lifetime achievement award, though I did see her introduction of the Chixie Dicks).

Anyway, I can't imagine the Chicks deserved all those awards. One maybe, but a sweep? And Carrie Underwood? She's not too bad but certainly not the best new artist. And Grammy voters played it safe by once again, awarding Tony Bennett (a duet with Stevie Wonder, bolstering the safety zone). I'm with Michael Buble, enough Tony Bennett already. What else do I have to complain about -- oh yeah, enough of Mary J. Blige's routine (I suffered, then I found redemption and now I'm a superstar). There, I said it. Yes, she's good, but enough already.

And to prove I'm not all complaints -- Christina Aguilera blew everybody away. That young lady can sing.

Christina Aguilera was the highlight of the show for me too!

I also liked the Corinne Bailey Rae/John Legend/John Mayer set and the Gnarles Barkley performance.

The biggest let down of the night for me were the The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I was really looking forward to their performance, but it seem so un-inspired. I was disappointed.

Joan Baez looked beautiful!!!
