Got one of those slips from the post office today notifying me of a large parcel from Temple University sent certified mail. 'Tis my big honkin' Ph.D. diploma - at last!
I defended last August, but just missed the deadline for an August graduation, so I had to wait until January. They actually had the ceremony on 2 February (Groundhog Day) - but I told them just to mail it to me. I wasn't driving all the way up to Philadelphia and paying $80 to rent a silly looking cap and gown to graduate in front of a bunch of people who don't know me from a hole in the wall because it took me so long to finish.
So I am ripping of my alternative diploma ceremony from an episode of "The Simpsons." Homer steals Ned Flanders's high school diploma from the trash and nails it to the wall in his house, dancing around and singing, "I am so smart! S-M-R-T!" I think he sets his house on fire in process - I will skip that part.

Congratulations, Dr. Oak!

If I was there Dr. Oak, I would frame it for you as a graduation gift.

Thanks guys. I got lots of Rudie congratulations last August. It is just nice to have tangible evidence of all that work to nail to the wall.

Congratulations, "Doc". Perhaps you should put the diploma on the refrigerator with a magnet?

Oh yes, I know that!;)

Randy... Hope you sprang for the hood and hat at least. You never know when you might be asked to march in an academic procession. I can just see it now!!!

I'm sort of where you are when it comes to graduations. I did the same thing when I got my Masters. "Send it to me."
But you can bet I'm making my daughter go through her graduation in May!
Now, get out there and do something smart!
This just proves that very smart and completely crazy can go together very well in one person
I am glad your walldecoration is in ;)

Congratulation Dr Oak.:)
Wall-hangings of that ilk are expensive...of course, you could put it in plastic or glass and use it for a trivet....

Good idea, Bat!
Or I could laminate it and use it as a placemat.

Yeah, laminate, that's it! Couldn't think of the word. Doh.
Good thinking...it would make a lovely placemat...one of a kind. You could do High School, College, Masters, and Doctorate...that would make a great setting for four, don'cha think? (at least, reproductions of them would make great conversation pieces!)

I've got a whole bag full of vintage diplomas (mainly from the 20s and 30s) which I've been trying to think of a use for. Like the idea of placemats....and with a little whiteout and calligraphy, I could be a graduate of a Catholic school, a middle school in a town that no longer exists, and have a 1912-dated degree from the University of Minnesota in the "Basic Medical Sciences".
Other suggestions are welcome....I'm rather tired of tripping over them.
