Calling All Poets

Found this one in an old journal this morning:

Frost lies in quiet sleep across the morning rooftops
On leaves fallen and wind-scattered on the ground
I waken slowly in chilly sunrise, dreaming in a world
Where heartaches were born and yet abound

My hopeful young notions of love beyond spoken words
Childhood-given sincerity, and romantic considerations
Were drained early on in my broken hearted long agos
Disappointment surviving even lesser expectations

Though now far away, they remain tormentingly near
The mothers, the lovers, the enemy friends, the beasts
By my side, you seemingly reflect facets of them all
But they were not you - I bid them release

Untitled - November 2000

Wow, lovely Dee! I should dig out some of mine. I tend not to because it makes me feel sentimental, but at the same time... That is the point!

Lovely poem, Dee. Thank-you.

Yes Song, please do try "dig out" some, and anyone else who wants to. I'm hoping more of our closet poets will do the same.

Okay, here's one:

PORTRAYAL

An actor has written all my poems.
I hired him some time back
to portray me, to stand on stage
with a suitcase of my passions,

presenting them one-by-one
to an unsuspecting audience.
How they applaud him! If only I
could slip this reticence and join

my creation before the crowd,
take our bows together and then
tell him ‘Good job but your services
are no longer necessary.’

I'm not a 'closet poet' by any means -- this is a big part of my life these days. A while back, I made an abortive attempt to start up a literary magazine (online, at least at first) but dealing with two family deaths and then my big move to the new area led me to cancel those plans. Maybe it's time I gave it another try...

Well done, Stephen.

Guess I should have written closet poets and non-closeted poets. Just didn't and don’t want anyone to feel excluded from joining in if they're thinking of doing that.

Darlene and Song, I forgot to thank you both for the compliments earlier. I'm pleased with that one and it may even grow up to be a song some day. ;)
