Hi Rudies,
I was just wondering if anyone you knows the above mentioned Carole King 2 cd set and can tell me about it!
Is it worth buying it? I know the "classic" King cds like "Tapestry", "Writer" or "Rhymes and Reasons" but I have no idea how this new cd could sound...
I didn't find it in any record store around here so I have no chance to test it...
Waiting for your help

Mimi :)

You're welcome, Mimi.

Did you know these CDs are entirely new "live" recordings? (I didn't.)

Mimi

No, I didn't, Dee. Just listened to the samples and I must admit that I really really like this album even if I've heard only the first 30 seconds of each song. I think it's a great album. In the beginning I was a bit surprised how different Carole's voice sounds today ("Her hoarse, nasal voice is a surprise after all these years," as one customer wrote.) But I like that, too.

Thanks again, Dee, for your research!

With my usual flair for misinterpretation, when I saw the thread title I thought it meant Janis would still do LRC's during her year off from touring. :o

Probably can't go wrong with Carole King!

I will have to add this to my collection!

Great find, Mimi!

And thanks for the links, Dee.

Yah well, maybe Oak can teach that cool doll of hers to perform while she's at it. :D

I like it very much! It's completely live and very informal sounding, in a good way, not over produced or anything. One of the best parts is her daughter, Louise Goffen, joins her on 'You've Got A Friend'.

Most of us remember Carole especially for her fantastic Tapestry album, but of course she was writing songs for others long before that.

Definitely worth having for any Carole King fan.

It was great to hear those lovely sounds coming from Carole King again. She has always been a little hoarse and nasa sounding. I always loved hearing her and James Taylor singing backup for her on the Tapestry album and she singing back up oh his Sweet Baby James (I think it was that album). I love Carole King and she is 62 yrs old, it makes me feel old.

I've only heard 'Being At War With Eachother' from that CD and I like it a lot a lot! It's on my wishlist anyway.

What a treat. I had 2nd row seats for the 2005 show.

After all words and recomendations my order for this cd is finally placed and hopefully it'll arrive soon!

Ponytail, be sure you've not been the only one to think of Janis first... after I'd posted the thread there were about 25 views before someone replied... and to be honest... ;) I had foreseen that and it made me smile. With this headline I could be sure each Rudie would read it...

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I will check out the CD, too, though...I'll give it a listen at Barnes & Noble if they have it there. I love Carole King!

The tour's title was born out of the experience of Carole King stomping for John Kerry. She would go to political gatherings held in people's homes on the campaign trail. Of course, if there was a piano, there was a song or two.
Her desire was to take the intimace of playing in people's living rooms to a large venue.

Carole, along with Tony Bennett, was one of the special guests at the swearing in of the new House of Representatives this past week, led by Nancy Pelosi. I thought I recognized Carole in the gallery by her big hair, and the commentator confirmed my suspicion.

The Living Room cd was advertised on TV a lot and sold pretty well. But the star ratings on amazon are pretty meaningless because fans post five-star ratings for nearly anything.

I may have to purchase this CD. I love Carole King's Tapestry. All I'm listening to now is Janis Ian. I've been listing to her CD's since March. I can't seem to stop listening to Janis....cg.....

I bought it today. I find it pleasant. I like Carole King very much and I have since I was in junior high. Not only is she a "hit writer", and wonderful pianist, with some very moving ballads. Like most songwriters, her voice isn't the best, and on this album, she's a bit off key in some places, but I give her kudos for that fact that she was 62 when she recorded it. She also looks great! Carole sounds much better in the studio.

One of the nicest things about Janis is that her voice sounds as good, and sometimes even better live than on the slick studio albums she's put out.

Hear, hear!

I've been very fortunate in that I not only got to see Janis "live" but also other female singers who sound as good "live" as they do in the studio.

... but you are so right in this point and not only here, Kathleen. ;)

It happens very often that hearing Janis brings tears in my eyes in the first moment "just" because of the beauty of her voice. :)

I'll never forget how I learned about Carole King. She and Gerry Goffin wrote "Chains" which was on the Beatles album "Introducing the Beatles". Uh oh...I'm really dating myself. She is another really gifted writer and performer.

In the early '60's George Harrison said that Goffin and King were his absolute favorite songwriters! They wrote sooooo many hit songs that one actually loses count. I didn't realize until yesterday that they wrote "I'm into Something Good" that was a hit by Herman's Hermitts!

... tonight I got an email telling me it's not available at the moment here in Germany. Have to admit that I'm quite :( disappointed...

Me too! That's one of my dreams, right after I win the lottery - I'll buy a house and then I'll sign up for one of Janis' living room concerts. :)
