Just 5 minutes to jump in and let you know that one of the projects keeping me from the board is a first ever music and fine arts festival in my little town. Called Rhythm & Roots Festival, headliners will include Sleepy LaBeef (various styles), The Rocketmen (50's music and all are sidemen for various headline acts), Little Sammy Davis (vocals and harp), Tom Russell (singer-songwriter) and Steve Guyger (eminent blues harpist!) I believe all artists are confirmed so if you want a fun day in the Poconos, put June 24 on you calendar (rain or shine). Additionally, there will be fine artists displaying/selling their works and street musicians (when the mainstage isn't open).

The website for the event should be up next week and you can probably reach it through Google.

Best thing is it's FREE!

Yeah, Hoops. Hope you can make it. Should actually only be a little over an hour or so for you. You take 84 to Milford, jump on 6W straight into town!

A little longer trip for Redjack and Irish Beth! :D

Well, we lost Tom Russell, but gained Junior Watson!

L

(Hope that doesn't mean we lost any of you! Personally I think Junior Watson is terrific, though I enjoyed TR Weds. on Letterman.)

If you like the blues in particular this should be a real fun event. If you're gonna be in the area for the weekend, perhaps if enough Rudies come we can do a warm-up for the August "Pitt-nic" on the Sunday after the festival. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do it the day of the festival as Patrick and I will be working on the events all day. So what about it, Rudies? How many are coming?

:D

Leslie

PS - In retrospect, we might be able to meet somewhere on that day (before the 3pm mainstage start time). So we'll figure something out if you're only coming for the day!

are YOU performing??

Kath of the Guitar
04-26-2006, 05:04 PM
Hey Dar, I think she's got way too much on her plate to even consider performing......However, I think she SHOULD be part of the show!!!
Don't you?
Remember the Dar Williams song she sang for you?
That girl can sing!! I think I'm gonna have to stop telling her "Les is Moore"...LMAO ;) MOORE is MOORE.... sounds a little like Janis.

Sure do miss all of you
Kath :(

No guys, I'm not playing this year, but perhaps next. Mainstage is only national acts and main street are all out-of-towners (to avoid political problems.) However, next year there may be venues on Main Street for locals. And a further however, niece Liz Moore is probably going to be playing Main Street. :D

L

PS - Kath you crack me up!

I'm gonna work on trying to get Kath hired for next year. Of course, this is sudden news to her! Fortunately, as an out-of-stater, she won't have the political issues that locals face!

Drop me an e-mail and I'll pass along our cell phone # to you.... We'll be easy to spot as we will be wearing our JI Tye-dyed shirts ;)..... Think we'll stand out in a crowd????

E-mail has been sent. Let me know if you don't receive it. I may regret it, :D but I sent you my cell # so you can just call when you hit town.

Can't wait to meet you guys and Mr. & Mrs. Redjack. Just don't make my day tougher with a pirate roust on Main St.!

Leslie

Can't remember if I posted this yet or not, and no time to go back through the thread, but I wanted to let everyone who might be coming for the festival that there will be raffle tickets available for a Martin D-16 (hopefully signed by the artists) and a Peter Florance custom electric guitar hand painted by local (fabulous artist-musician) Roger Hill. Tickets are (I think) a reasonable $5 a piece. So if you're into music-making, you know what great instruments these are and believe me, I'll be buying more than my fair share of tickets!

Kathy - how many should I get for you?

Leslie

RedjackRyan

Only thing i'm likely to roust is Randy.. ya might find him tied to a lamppost somewhere along mainstreet. Figure we can give the kiddies a baseball bat and tell em he's a pinata :D :D

Ben, that would be possibly more exciting than the festival! And certainly more scandal than this town has seen for a while. Now you boys behave yourselves while your here!

Leslie, Leslie, Leslie.....

As all of Pittsburgh will attest I was loved while visiting there..... Unlike certain Pirates that needed to be restrained from time to time....at Club Cafe and the Irish Pub.... and several other places.....Of course being the kind and honorable person that I am I won't mention any names of scoundrels that happen to be Pirate Captains and colorful screen names that would make a bull see RED.... Still Kathy, the unmentionable persons FAR better half will keep him in check and if not maybe we can get FEMA to dispatch the National Guard.... Leslie, Betty and I are looking forward to coming to your event, and and meeting you folks and again running into that character from Pittsburgh and his lovely wife...

Throw another Farkle on the barbie....

Don't get them started.

And all of you pray to the weather gods, genies, fairies and anybody/thing you can think of that the 24th of June is GORGEOUS!

Excitement is really building around town and it sounds like 1/2 of the east coast will be here!

My june schedule is filling up rapidly, but as of right now we're still on for the 24th.

In an unrelated bit of remarkable irony, i was offered travel expenses and tickets to several Musikfest events.. apparently Highmark is sponsoring some of them.

We're not going to be able to make it after all, Dad's family is invading Pittsburgh the weekend of the 23rd and yours truly has been elected to host meals for the teemings masses..

Leslie, you'll have to hog-tie Randy on your own. :(

Hoops, you're in the 'hood, are you coming?

Last chance to let me know if anyone else is coming to our beautiful victorian town for the festival.

If you do make it, look for me until 3pm at the parking lot next to Honesdale Borough Hall. I'll be wearing the obligatory festival staff shirt and a soft cast on my left leg. (I'd much rather wear a Janis shirt!)
