At 2400 on Sunday, 31 December for a 2007 surprise. No, I am not giving you any hints, but feel free to amuse me with wild speculation. . .

Bat

2400 hours is Midnight. EST is Eastern Standard Time in the US, which is 5 hours earlier than GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) which is standard time, on the 0.00 meridian that runs through Greenwich, England, just a jaunt up the Thames from London. Does that clear things up for you, Darwoods?

By the way, is it 2400 hours or 0000?

It would be pretty cool to be able to say "mark: zero zero zero zero Zulu".

Just one of those thoughts that occurs to me at 2 a.m.

Basically it's midnight, Eastern Standard Time, Darlene. The same time they drop the big ball in Times Square. The same time I will be hiding from all the drunken maniacs ringing in the new year.

You're not gonna drop a big ball in this space are you Oak?

Bat er.... there's not an easy way to say this, it's 5 hours LATER

http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

We're 5 hours ahead, which has its disadvantages, believe me. When I lived in London, we used to take our cocker spaniels to Greenwich Park and were always crossing the Greenwich Meridian. The Marker is on the just outside the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich Park

Well, Godsistah, one COULD eat it, I suppose, but it would make you pretty sick - although that has not stopped my cats from trying to do so - so the surprise is currently secreted in a secure undisclosed location. . .and no, it is NOT Dick Cheney

Eva,
The surprise has nothing to do with me singing.

Dee,
I like the big ball idea, I'll have to keep that one in mind for the future. LOVE the little dog!

For those of you unfamiliar with military lingo, ZULU time is the same thing as Greenwich Mean Time, using a 24-hour clock instead of AM/PM.
I have no idea why the military calls it ZULU time.
It would be interesting to know what time system Zulu warriors use. . .

Let's see; the earth turns from West to East, so the sun comes up in the East. The sun would get to Britain first, since it is East of us. So they would get noon 5 hours before we do...which makes us 5 hours behind GMT.
When it is noon in London, it is 7am here, right? so we are Earlier in time, later in getting to the place where London was 5 hours earlier, right?
At the bottom of this page, it says we're GMT minus 5 hours, and to me that means we're earlier than GMT here in Cincinnati (EST)

(the time here is 6:58pm,(1858Zulu), so would be 11:58pm(23:58Zulu) in Britain.)

Eva

I will call 'the surprise' 'X' now. Let's see...

X is not supposed to be edible...
One can eat X but will get quite sick from it...
Oak Kittens cats eat X anyway...
X is now hidden in a secret and secure place...

OH MY GOODNESS OAK! You're not going to puke again, are you!? That would be TOO grosse... Even for a Pirate. No, that can't be it I hope.

I suppose X is not just an innocent bottle of champagne either Oak? One can feel pretty sick after drinking a lot of that.

So here is my concept for the 2007 Rude Girl Touring Action Figure. Since Janis will be working hard at home on her autobiography next year, Rude Girl will go on tour for her. As Rude Girl’s “Booking Agent,” I will entertain offers from Rudies to “book” Rude Girl for two-week engagements, where they can arrange for her “appearances.” The venues are only limited by your imagination and the bounds of good taste (oh, darn).

Those of you who have or teach school-age children, the operating principle behind this is the same as that of “Flat Stanley,” the children’s book character who gets mailed around the world to have adventures. On this side of the pond, I will coordinate the sequence of Rude Girl’s bookings. I will send her to the first person, who will send her back to me after two weeks (or less), I will then send her to the next designated (by me) host Rudie. (Do I have control issues? You betcha!) I assume there will be demand for her in Europe, and other places overseas and we will have to work out the logistics for those trips as they come up. She will probably need a European and Asian tour coordinator as well.

I plan to create a road tour diary to send along with her to record her adventures, and of course, there will be a thread on the JIMB. There are no fees associated with booking Rude Girl, aside from postage, but a contribution mailed directly to the Pearl Foundation would be appreciated. At the end of her world tour, Rude Girl and her diary will go home to Nashville to help Janis finish the autobiography.

So whaddya think? I am open to suggestions. Is this scheme okay with you, Janis?

(Yeah, I know, like she is hovering over the computer keyboard at midnight on New Year's Eve waiting for this. . .)

Dee,

Rude Girl also has a partial pipe cleaner skeletal structure (arms and legs) which gives her some flexibility. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have given her a "spine" as well, which would have made her even more bendable. This was my first attempt at making a doll - heck, I never even played with dolls when I was a kid, and my limited sewing skills will be evident to those with real talent in that department, like Karen. But the aesthetic shortcomings just give her more "character" - or so I choose to believe.

Oak, I think this doll is very attractive. I have some stuffed animals and I'm sure there are some that would like to date her or make music with her. Of course the rabbit is sniffing the cow's behind at this moment, but I'll teach them some manners before she gets here. Maybe my bondagebabes would also like a picture with her! :D (or was that the 'good taste' limit you were talking about before? )

Karen, that would be great, if you and Mixty could expand her wardrobe - although it will most likely require surgical removal of her current shirt - I may have stitched it into her in a few places when I was working on it around 2 AM. . .

Jeans and shirt are non-removable - no matter - we don't need no stinking Bedazzler - we can glue rhinestones on those jeans, provided Jenny sends someone (like me) the original pair . . . just for accuracy sake . . . not that anyone (like me) would attempt to KEEP the original rhinestone jeans . . . ;)

Unfortunately I think Charlie really loves dolls, and favours a little one I used to have in my stock for a childrens' gallery. He brings it to bed, and takes it for walks around what used to be a garden. I guess he is gay, but that is okay with me :D He will be very gentle ;)

I had a doll when I was quite small--his name was Toby and I carried him around all over the place. Not sure how old I was when I developed other favorite toys, but Toby was eventually laid away, though I believe my mother still has him somewhere. Indeed, I live in terror that he may be hauled out of storage during a holiday gathering someday. She's DONE the baby pictures already, so there is little else left.

Oak Kitten

Invisible Wife,

The Cafe Du Mond, definitely. But no way am I going anywhere near a Hurricane ever again. I was last in N'awlins around 1985. Went to Preservation Hall and then to Pat O'Brien's for the famous Hurricane. I was sick as a dog for the next week. I was there on navy orders for a two week course, and I missed the entire second week. And I drink a lot less now than I did back in those days of impetuous youth. A Hurricane would probably kill me this time around!

I don't recall seeing any dacquiri stands when I was there before, Dar, but I DO recall seeing herds of transvestites roaming the streets. Fascinating.

She will be doing a multi-country tour with Cardiffgal in Sep-Oct - but we can work out a tour schedule for the Western European Rudies as well before then. To keep postage costs and travel time to a minimum, I need to figure out a system where she can be mailed from one European location to another without her having to come back to me in between.

Some people are particular about to whom they give their personal mailing address, but I think we should be able to work out something, perhaps through private messaging via the JIMB.

And I am not forgetting the Aussie contingent! She can travel down under as well. Folks just need to PM me and let me know of their interesting in booking Rude Girl, and provide me with their addresses.

Aside from providing postage to get her to her next destination, I don't want to impose too many requirements on her hosts - whatever people can manage. The idea is to share the FUN.

I started a new thread for the Rude Girl World Tour. (There is a special picture for you on there.) I can post the pictures to a photobucket album, or if Chet wants to, she can put them on website. "Don't make no nevermind to me no how. . . "
