Thanks for the well wishes everyone.
The first gift I got today was waking up to see actual snow falling and staying on the ground, after a December so far of none.
You're not late, Agnes my child. Forty-seven years old today. *creak, creak* ;)

Happy Birthday, Dee!!!
Hope it's wonderful! That gives you a birthday the day after Christmas, like my cousin Ben... He always hated it, because most people bought him either a Christmas gift or a Birthday gift, he rarely got both.

Thanks y'all. Unfortunately I seem to have picked up a head cold for my birthday as well, but Jimmy came for lunch and to spend the afternoon with me. It was nice & quiet and intimate, and therefore relaxing – a great birthday present in my books. That, and the yummy lunch and the 2-year-old white cheddar cheese gift. I know, I know, "Stop eating now Dee."
Oh, and I also showed him the Janis on E.T. segment which he hadn't seen yet. I'll turn that man into a Rudie yet! :p

Thank you both. The birthday was good but also ushered in a head cold. Nursing that with fluids and bed rest and Advil for the aches and pains.
Did you know daytime television can turn your mind to mush?

Belated birthday wishes, Dee. Drink lots of hot liquids or 9 star Metaxa (a Greek brandy) even if it doesn't help the symptoms - you won't give a damn!

Dee, I came down with a head cold as well on my birthday so I know exactly how you feel! Not a very good birthday gift, eh? I do think the Zicam that I started taking immediately did help to ease the severity of this cold. I would recommend it next time you start to feel one coming on. Take it easy and drink those fluids. You will feel better in no time!

I'm late, but Happy Birthday, Dee!!
I hope you recover from your cold MUCH quicker than I got over my last one! Feel better!
Spent most of last night tossing and turning in uncomfortable sweat. Hope that's a good sign that my body is purging itself of the nasties. Interesting how we both caught head colds on our birthdays, Diane. Don’t know about you but I demand a refund!

Happy Birthday, Dee. ~ <O-l-< ~ [Man wearing party hat, surrounded by streamers. :D ] And have a Happy New Year also! :)
Ginny,
Your little diagram reminds me of a clever system of communication that some people with disabilities used (when I worked in that field) called Blissymbols (http://www.blissymbolics.us/lessons/).
Charles Kasiel Blitz was born to Jewish parents in Austria in 1897. After graduating in Chemical Engineering from Vienna Technical University in 1922, Bliss became chief of patents in a large electrical firm. He fled from Nazi occupation during World War II, making his way via England to Shanghai where he lived until travelling to Australia in 1946. While in England, he officially changed his surname to Bliss.
In Australia, Bliss did not return to his profession of chemical engineering, but took a job on the construction line of General Motors Holden, so that he could concentrate on perfecting a system of sign language he had developed using ‘Blissymbols’ to help people communicate. The system enabled people to use simple symbols to express themselves, without being confused by spelling and grammatical complexities. In 1949 he published Semantic Bliss symbols. In 1971 the Ontario Crippled Children’s Home began to use Bliss symbols for the teaching of communication to cerebral palsied children.
After the death of his wife Claire in 1961, the Semantography Trust Fund was established under the terms of her will, for the purpose of propagating the Bliss concept.
In 1974, Film Australia and the National Film Board of Canada made a film about Bliss entitled Mr Symbol Man.
The Blissymbolics Communication Foundation was established in Toronto, Canada in 1975, to maintain standard symbol form and to provide training and materials for people who apply Blissymbolics with non-speaking persons. The Foundation was renamed the Blissymbolics Communication Institute in 1978.
Bliss received an Order of Australia in 1969 and an Advance Australia Award in 1982 in recognition of his work. He was also appointed an Honorary Fellow in Linguistics at the Australian National University in 1979.

Hi again, Dee. :) I looked over the website you posted, and found it rather fascinating. It occorred to me that maybe I could converse with some of Janis's Japanese fans this way, via the Internet. Perhaps photos could be added in, also, to bring more sophistication to this type of communication. I can see that my scanner would have to be used for this type of project; these symbols obviously could not be typed directly from my keyboard....

Happy Birthday Dee !
Thanks, Mike.
Yah Ginny, I find it fascinating how once you know the basic symbols the combinations make so much sense.
