This is a follow-up to the "Showtime!" thread. I was able to figure out how to post video clips after about 15 hours straight of torture. So I thought I would share the pain. The two clips are from the Combined Federal Campaign talent show we had at work. The first one is the COs introduction, and the second one is my performance of "My Autobiography."

Thanks Dee. I had a blast, even with the technical difficuties.
Oak
I thought you handled those like a real pro, Randy. You picked up and carried on, which is the main thing.
Judging by the audience reaction, I'd say you were a definite hit!

Thank you all for your kind comments. Sorry it took me so long to respond, but I posted those clips early Saturday morning and then hit the road for New England to visit family for Christmas. Got back just before midnight last night.
I think it's cool to watch the audience react to Janis's lyrics - which as I said previously deserve the lion's share of the credit as opposed to my performance. People just LOVE that song. . .
Mixty, you must be REALLY desperate for entertainment if you checked out all the pics in my photobucket album. Either that, or you have a thing for strange pictures of squirrels. . .

No, not really...it was more like Mt. Everest - it was there. ;) Betcha I'm not the only one who looked, but I am the only one to have confessed to it!
Btw, nice squirrel pics!

Believe it or not, I just noticed this thread now. I'm going to be late for my own funeral.
Loved your performance, Oak. it was fun seeing the audience react to certain lines, especially the one about the Kennedys. (I think their lawyer must have tampered with your mike!):D

Oak that was really terrific:D. It had to be difficult to get up in front of all those people and it looked as if you were getting a standing ovation. Great Job!;)

that you are in good company (apart from the songwriter your dear close personal friend). When I was at the Bette Midler concert last year she also lost sound, but for much longer than you. What made it worse was that the backing group had sound, so it took a while for the sound engineers to understand. I think she nearly threw the mike at one of them, but all ended harmoniously - if you'll excuse the pun:D

Very cool Randy ! Thanks for sharing the event with us, can we book you as musical guest for the 2008 picnic?
Your perfomance was excellent Oak! Loved it
And if you will be the musical guest for a Rudie picknick then let it be the picknick in the Netherlands. Last time you seemed to like it here... :D

Leslie and Kath can easily play circles around me - but if I can practice until 2008 I MIGHT be able to play in their presence without totally humiliating myself. And I promise not to throw up, either.
Oak
Cool, bring everyone. Those who can play an instrument or sing. And those who can't. We'll have kroketten, old Dutch cheese and stroopkoeken! You'll get some too Oak, if you don't puke.

Thanks for sharing, Randy. Don't underestimate your guitar work. You didn't miss a beat after your technical difficulties and I didn't hear a single clinker.
Dr. Oak - That was awesome!!! You held the audience captive, they hung on every word and note!! And a standing ovation!!!! That was just too cool. You were wonderful and very funny! I smiled and laughed and stood on my chair and gave you my own standing ovation!
Bravo! Bravo!

Thanks, Lin
That show was back on 7 December, and yet not one day has gone by at work to date without someone commenting on it to me. I appear to have made myself obscurely famous. A few people have stopped and asked me if "I really know Janis Ian," and I fess up to the fact that I am but a mere groupie, but I always encourage them to listen to her work. After all, that is the Iangelical mission.
I am pleased to say that the talent show raised about $1,000 for charity with the money contributed at the door plus additional contributions for DVDs of the show, which sold out. Overall, the command raised more than $170,000 for the Combined Federal Campaign this year.
