View Full Version : Prophetic lyrics, Janis
Listened to 'Folk is the New Black' again this afternoon... and laughed out loudly when I realized again this line in the chorus of the title song:
"Download it and see, the first time ist free, then you'll be hooked..."
That's exactly what happened to me. This was the first song I ever heard of Janis. I downloaded it from the website, listened, downloaded the others, left the house, bought FINB and Souvenirs as it were the only ones I available here at that moment, listened again and realized that I was already hooked.
Fortunately I was able to order most of the other CDs via internet, Janismania, Unreleased 2 and 3 from Nashville and finally I bought the Club Café DVD after the Kerkrade show... and last but not least I'm waiting for the postman to bring me my stuff from the holiday sale - with the last of the missing CDs... :)
Indeed this was the greatest discovery in music I ever made and it way of changed my life a lot!
Thank YOU, Janis
So it worked... You are an addict now, Mimi. Like all of us. The difference with a lot of other things one can get addicted to is that an addiction to Janis' music, is actually good for the health.

:) That's it, Eva! When I'm happy it makes me lucky, it comforts me when I'm sad and it does other miracles...
Mimi
Yes Mimi, I have the same. I feel a lot of emotions when I play Janis' music. And I feel it comforts me, gives me the will and strength to fight, makes me feel proud, or just plain happy.
Also there are certain emotions that kind of go together with a certain song. 'This train still runs' always makes me feel hopeful. 'Passionplay' (strangely enough?) always makes me happy. Most songs are attached to a certain emotion.

Enjoy, Mimi!
This is the first chance I have had to listen to the CDs I got on Wednesday. I had to work this weekend. As soon as I got home, I popped "Aftertones" into the stereo. I have 12 "new" (to me) CDs to listen to - life is good!

Enjoy, Oak! I am certain you will.

If you want to hear prophetic lyrics, check out "Bigger Than Real" from Janis' "Restless Eyes" album -- circa 1981. It's amazing -- like she knew what was coming.

Consider that Heart of a City and On the Other Side were written prior to 9/11 and The Great Divide was written well before Katrina.
That is prophecy!

Dunno how I missed her when I was a teenager. I sure wish I had followed her up then when I had the chance

I'm interested: what was coming exactly? I did not notice the prophetic part in this song.

seems to me the very best singer songwriters write prophetically, Janis has many songs that are before their time.
