Actually, I wrote this soon after I got back to my hotel room but I kept getting disconnected before I could post it, so I finally gave up. I did save a draft in my trusty PDA, and talking to DavidUK a while ago, he said I should post it. So here goes ...
-----------------------------------
I had my best birthday ever - I was at Janis's show in San Diego!
I am so glad I attended the show. I got to meet Kathleen and Jo-Ellen, and Dar, too. Dar who couldn't believe her eyes when I called her and she looked down to see who it was.
When I decided to go to the San Diego show, I did not know it was to be her last show before taking time off next year to write her autobiography. I was planning to visit the pandas and was hoping for a Janis show, preferably in Washington, DC, that I could attend at the same time. I was in two minds about confirming the visit, so really, the San Diego show was the decider.
The venue was excellent, a church with high ceilings that contributed to the great sound that allowed Janis to show off both her voice and guitar playing. The latter in "Between the Lines" was, to use an old but true cliche, earth-shattering.
She played two of my favourite songs - "In the Winter" and "Here comes the Night".
She also played "Play like a Girl" - and remembered the words, too!
For the encore, she sang the one song that was the most appropriate, not just to end the San Diego show, but also the entire FINB tour ...
Stars.
My only regret is that Lori cardiffgal could not make it to the show.
-----------------------------------
Update:
I got to meet Lori cardiffgal a couple of days later at the San Diego Zoo, and also her family the next evening when I went over for dinner. She later sent me to the airport for my flight to Washington, DC.
All this took place more than 2 weeks ago. Can't believe I was there, but my pictures tell me I was!
