hmmm What did you do Mimi? When I click on "vote now" nothing happens. Below that when I click on subscription it is quick to ask me for money!!

Marcia

Seemed to work ok for me. It came up saying thank you for your vote, Andrea or something similar to that.

I just pressed the vote button and it went to a page that asked for the song, artist, your name, email and discription.

:)

Had trouble getting in yesterday, but this morning I did.

Here's my first song submission:

Song Title
Society’s Child

Why you love it: (in 250 words or less)
I applaud any song that makes people examine their pre held notions. Society's Child was a bold and daring song released in 1967 which got a lot of attention for its controversial topic - interracial dating.

I got through! Click the big, black caption on the right that announces the contest. You can vote for as many as you want. Although not by absolutely favorites, those have the best chance to win, I'd imagine.

And my second Janis pick for the greatest song ever is ...

Song Title
Jesse

Why you love it: (in 250 words or less)
A hauntingly beautiful timeless song, from Robert Flack’s hit version to Janis Ian’s own.

I just voted for "At Seventeen" and made this comment:

It captures the feeling of alienation in high school -- which for many of us was the loneliest time in our lives. A vivid, truthful song that helps people know they're not alone -- what a noble accomplishment.

It worked for me today. I voted for "At Seventeen" because of the universal...it is personal to so many people as if Janis knew about "our lives" and was writing about us. I think I stated it a little bit better on the voting page!

Marcia :)

like Marcia I voted for Seventeen because it's universal, but also for Society's Child and Fly Too High, cos they're well known too.

Just left my vote for At Seventeen. I commented that this is a song that most of us can identify with.

Society's Child, because it helped change the world.
At Seventeen, because it is all of us.
Honest and Universal, Janis is.

I voted for At Seventeen. Because of it is universal and most people can relate to it, and it is beautifully written....cg....

For Stars.

My all time favorite Janis Ian song. I love hearing it sung by so many different singers of so many different styles. And as with many Janis Ian songs it still holds up today. Don't miss the Nina Simone version done live at the Montreaux Jazz festival. Available on DVD.

Society's Child, and In the Winter.

I wasn't sure how many I could vote for, or I would have voted for more. Maybe I still will, if it still lets me.

Great taste, Song! "In the Winter" is one of Janis' most powerful songs, in my opinion!

I absolutely love "In the Winter".

I mean, I know I can't relate, I've never been married, and so I've also never been divorced. I've never even had much of a relationship. But... something about it makes it one of my all-time favorites. My all-time favorites, though, can depend on the day...

At Seventeen got my vote! Ditto for all the reasons listed before me. Who, at that age could not identify with the song.
