Here is a set of six video clips that demonstrate good technique for soldering electronic circuits. Each one is a 1.3 Megabyte MPEG file. Download them and play them back to review the basics of soldering.

Hmmm...couldn't help but be reminded of a time in junior high school when I picked up a soldering iron by the wrong end and was so distracted that I didn't notice until the hand in question began to smoke....things got rather exciting after that....

Am I the only one who has wondered if NASA should try "outsourcing" the space shuttle to Toyota or some such? Somehow I think the Japanese might be able to figure out how to keep pieces from falling off in short order.

Of course, the space shuttle is more or less 1960s technology which belongs in space about as much as a Stanley Steamer belongs on the interstate. Really would like to see a successor which at least has modern electronics. This is no joke: at least part of the shuttle fleet still uses 5 1/4" disk drives which NASA has been forced to purchase via eBay. I kid you not.
