I LOVE Jane Birkin- I saw her a couple of times on her "arabesque" tour where she performed the late Serge Gainsbourg's songs with North African muicians- fabulous stuff...

Haven't listened to Fictions yet- interesting to se she's now recording more in English......

I attended that tour as well. The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. It was quite an emotional concert as is the album that goes with it. I love how Serge's songs adapt to that style of music.

I think Jane has a kind of love hate relationship with England. Highlights on the album for me are :

Home - written by Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy)
Waterloo Station - written by Rufus Wainwright
My Secret - written by Beth Gibbons (Portishead)
Harvest Moon - written by Neil Young
Mother Stands for Comfort - written by Kate Bush

it is the kind of CD to listen to late at night with a glass of wine and some chocolate.
:)

gisli, if you go to www.janebirkin.com or www.janebirkin.net you will find out more.

Mother Stands for Comfort- a beautiful song- I remember that from the Hounds of Love......

I was in the kitchen when the song came on the first time. Jane gives it a bit of a twist so I was standing there recognising while not recognising the song. :)

I love when singers interpret Kate's songs and I wish more people would do it.
