View Full Version : I've arrived in London

Chet

Got into Heathrow around 6:30 p.m. and took the Tube and train to where my friend, Mel, lives in Denmark Hill.

Tried to use my own mobile to send a message to Manchester, but it didn't work, so Mel lent me one of her prepaid Virgin cards and I sent off an "arrived safely" message to Anne. Heard back from her this morning.

Mel lives on the top floor of a block of flats with her partner and a 12-year Cairn terrier called Mortimer. We went into the garden this morning where Mel gave Morty a much needed fur cut, and I took some pictures.

We're going out in a bit for her to show me the bus route into London.

*pause*

I'm really in London and will be seeing Janis and the UK Rudies a week from today!

Congratulations, Chet! Look forward to seeing you all next weekend.
We, too, are safely landed at last. Got up at 3.45 am Saturday to make an early flight Nashville-Chicago, then on to O'Hare. Instead, Nashville was 50 minutes late leaving. Changed Chicago-O'Hare. Flight was cancelled after we sat on the tarmac for an hour or so. Finally ended up with a flight Chicago-JFK, then on to O'Hare. Instead of arriving the evening of the 8th, we found ourselves finally checking in early afternoon of the 9th.
Oh well. The best laid plans... me for an early dinner and bedtime tonight!

Glad you made it safely across The Pond too, Janis.

The very thought of getting on one of those airborne things scares the crap out of me.

Yes folks, your little Deemeister is a flying wimp. There. You know all my secrets now.

Greetings to both Janis and Chet. We are pleased you have arrived safely in England. You seem to have brought bad weather with you :(

Lets hope that next Easter weekend will be warm and sunny.

We're also looking forward to greeting our other international guests at the weekend, Anna on Thursday and Marjan on Saturday.
On another note, despite the fact that it SNOWED last night in parts of Sussex*, sunshine is set to arrive in Brighton on Friday, just in time for our weekend.
Yay!

* Thank you David! Where am I? :D

We had 6 inches of snow here in Sussex this morning but it had all disappeared by lunchtime - thankfully. We are forecast rain tomorrow but there is an improvement coming at the end of the week.

We are generally very lucky with the weather at Easter so it's finger's crossed for Sunday. I hope it's not too cold as the smoker's have to use a marquee - which means they get to spend more time with Janis.

Now then UK Rudies - that's not an excuse to take up smoking!!

Great to hear of your arrivals, Chet and Janis. That means Janis is farther away from me, and Chet is closer to me, than normal. Ah, distance, such an interesting feature. Almost as interesting as time.

The best laid plans of wice and women. Okay, just had to say that after Janis started it. The alliteration at the cost of meaning... Can't have everything.

I am SO excited and I'm not even there! Chet, be careful and ENJOY!!
Janis, your schedule is grueling...I don't know how you keep up such a pace. But I'm so thankful you do.

Everyone over there keep us posted over here...a day by day account.
God, this technology is awesome! When I first became a Janismanic, there
was no way to know what was going on on a daily basis. This amazes me! PK :p

Hi everyone

I'm posting from the library at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, my alma mater. I took the train up yesterday afternoon and arrived to a cold, wet Norwich. Yes, it was raining! I'd joked to Melanie, my friend in London, that maybe I should bring an umbrella with me. Well, I didn't, and I ended up getting one here on campus, otherwise I'd get wet, and I don't want to fall ill before this weekend. But ... it's cool and sunny this moring.

I called up an old university mate yesterday evening and she came to fetch me to go to her place. Yes, another friend I haven't seen in 17 years!

I'm off to the city in a bit. As I came in from the train station on the bus yesterday, we drove through the city and I kept thinking "Oh, I remember this place, and that one, too ... "

This is all very exciting for me. And you know what? All this wouldn't be happening if it weren't for Janis Ian. And of course, my niece, too.

Chet, I could not be happier for you. I was wondering why you were going to England so far in advance of the LRC and your planned additional gigs.

I did not know you went to school in England. I am sure I am not alone in saying you are now more intriguing then ever :D .

I can hardly wait to hear more about your trip and of course to see your great pictures.

Be well, stay as dry as possible and continue to have a smashing time!
