Founded in 1999, The Mariachi Divas are continuously making big waves on the Los Angeles music scene. Mariachi Divas is a unique, multi-cultural ensemble, represented by women of: Mexican, Cuban, Samoan, Argentinean, Colombian, Japanese, Puerto Rican, Swiss and Anglo decent.
Founder and Director Cindy Shea-Carballo states, “Music is a way of uniting our cultural backgrounds. As a result of living in such a diverse city, we have become a melting pot of cultures from all over the world. Falling in love with the sounds of mariachi is what inspired me to share and introduce mariachi music with other musicians of diverse backgrounds like myself. It has been a rewarding experience for me to know that I have brought so many cultures together to honor mariachi music.”
Having a unique sound all their own, the Divas have even created their own style of music called “ranchengue”, a unique combination of a ranchera played in merengue fashion.
Mariachi Divas has been featured at the Arrowhead Pond, Universal Amphitheatre, Staples Center, Greek Theater, LA Forum, Santa Barbara Bowl and have also accompanied Grammy winning artists such as: Joan Sebastian, Marco Antonio Solis, Graciela Beltran, Jenni Rivera, and Paulina Rubio. In 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005 the Divas have showcased their innovative sounds at the NAMM SHOW in Anaheim, CA. In 2005 the Divas were invited to perform at the Tucson and Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference as one of the main acts. Mariachi Divas were also televised for over 500,000 people on the streets of downtown Los Angeles at the largest "Cinco de Mayo" celebration in the world-The 14th and 15th Annual Fiesta Broadway 2003 and 2004. They have appeared at the L.A. County Fair numerous times including the most recent in September 2003 performing as part of the famous Mariachi USA. The Divas have not only traveled throughout the USA including performances in Utah, Idaho, New Mexico and Wyoming, but also performed in Tampico, Mexico in 2004. Mariachi Divas has performed three times at the John Anson Ford Theater including a celebration of the "Day of the Dead", a "Women in Jazz" concert in 2004, and in August 2005 helped produce their own show in which they were the main act. The Divas also appear in the recently released documentary "Viva El Mariachi".
Mariachi Divas have made several television appearances on shows such as: Despierta America, Control, Vista LA, Primer Impacto, Escandalo, LATV's Mex to the Max, Adelante Hispanos, Sabado Gigante, Off the Roof, De Todo Un Poco, Primera Edicion, Atrevete, Futbol Mania, Premio de La Gente, Latination, BBQ with Bobby Flay, and recently took roles as actors as they took part in two independent films, "Dead Man's Shoe" and "La Dentista" where the music from their CD was used as the movies' soundtrack.
In September 2003, Mariachi Divas began performing and continue to perform every week for audiences of all ages while strolling throughout the streets of Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim. You can also hear the sounds of Mariachi Divas live on stage every week at the historical “La Fonda Restaurant” in the city of Los Angeles which is also the home of Nati Cano’s Grammy nominated Mariachi Los Camperos.
