Ken recently went home to New Brunswick (http://www.orser.hartland.nb.ca/maple/map.jpg) to visit. Upon returning he brought me a pint of maple syrup from the old sugar woods his family owned, and which is now owned and operated by a cousin. In the sale contract, it was stipulated that Ken and each of his siblings receive 3 litres of syrup from each crop.

So here’s what I had this morning on French toast. Sweet and superb eating. Yes folks, Spring is finally sprung. :)

Dee,

Now you have got me craving a trip to Parker's Maple Barn (pronounced Pahkahs Maple Bahn by the locals) in southern New Hampshire. They serve these HUGE pancake breakfasts and they make their own syrup on site. You can see the tubes running from the tapped trees down to the tubs that collect the sap. They do stick a few buckets on trees near the road - purely for aesthetic purposes to satisfy the tourists.

The restaurant is a large barn-like structure with exposed beams and vintage farm implements on the walls for decoration. They also have a blacksmith shop and a gift shop. On the weekends, the line for breakfast extends well out the door and into the parking lot, but the wait is never too long - they are very efficient at getting people through without hurrying them.

I will be in Massachusetts next week for a couple of days, but alas, my schedule will not permit a trip to Pahkahs. I might be able to squeeze one in the next week though. Thanks for giving me something to shoot for!

Nothing like 100% all natural maple syrup. Yum!

Hope you do make it to Pahkahs Maple Bahn, Oak Kitten. :)

before you judge me... remember i grew up the 5 th of nine children. i've recently had my very first taste of real maple syrup and...please be kind... it's too sweet for my taste, i prefer the fake stuff. I prefer skim milk to whole milk too cause it was always a little but cheaper and it's what we had.
