After meeting with the last of specialists today I was told what I already knew, which is that the eye is not viable. Scheduled for Monday surgery around noon to remove it, repair a bone damaged in the fall, and sew eye muscles to implant. (So the eye prosthesis will move in union with my good eye.) Remarkably this is about a 2 1/2 hr out-patient proceedure and I will be home that night if all goes well.
And so now the prayers shift -- that no infections develop, that my body will not reject these foreign implants.

My heart's breaking for you, honey...that is one of the worst losses we can have, and thank goodness it's only one! You'll learn to compensate and will get along just fine, I know, but....

A little story.............. I used to work as an anaesthetic/recovery nurse, and one of the consultant anaesthetists one day asked me to examine one of our (unconcious) patients. It took me a good few seconds to realise why the patient's left eye was not responding as normal. Damn, those prosthetics are good! And that was about 10 years ago. No great encouragement, I'm sure, but ..........................
