I know, I know, I've been away too long. Too much Drama going on in my life, and the troubles with poc.

Work is very weird. You all know how I loved my new position in the cash office...Last Monday the store mgr had a meeting with the office..They are 'down sizing' the store starting with us. There will only be two full time positions and one 28 hour and one 16 hours. The 28 one is no good because if you do that you can't work anywhere else in the store to make up your hours.
If you apply for a position outside the office and don't get it, you can't come back to the office. Rules, rules, rules. The bottom line is that less employees will be doing more work. This, they say is in the interest of 'Better serving the customer'. As usual, what it is really all about is their bottom line.
So there have been tear's flowing from all. These people have worked together for year's. I wanted to be a part of this family...
Our boss, Amanda is willingly leaving the office to work elsewhere in the store.
Roshini has second choice and she's taking the 6 am to 3 pm shift.
we think Robbie is going to take the 10 pm to 7am shift. Debbie is going to take a paycut and be a checker. Charles is going to try gor the csm position.
Amanda said I should pick the full time 10 to seven as my first choice in case no one else took it and so they know I want full time. My second choice is the overnight 16 hour shift because they will let me work elsewhere in the store. If I keep the c/o postion as my primary job code I won't have to take a pay cut.
I'm gonna stop before I run out of room

OK, Pammy. Deep breath and think good thoughts. Make sure you ask for what you need (nicely of course) as it's worked out before and likely will work out again. Make sure your boss's boss knows who you are and how you came to get the position. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Ace, Yes, I really needed that deep breath. When the big boss first told me, I was shocked and devastated. But so many people from all over the store have come up to me to say,"please don't leave our store", that it really made me think. No matter how thing's turn out, it's going to be okay. I made a really good friend in the office. Normally it's hard for me to take a friendship out of the work context, but this one did. She is from India and very smart and funny. We won't be working together anymore but I know we will still be friend's.
I just have this feeling that thing's will work out. Even if it is not good for awhile, it will turn out for the best.

Hang in there, Pammy, and stick around.....you've got a lot of friends here, as you know.

Perhaps we need to stage a Rudie March On Wal-Mart?

Life is sometimes like a rollercoster.

Changes can be frustrating but............they can turn out for the better........

It is just a question of approching it in a positive way. Seems to me you are doing just that.

You make the best of them changes Pammy, nice to see you back on this board.

I'm supposed to find out Monday or Tuesday. Friday, I got kind of upset but I'm okay now. To quate Ennis in Brokeback Mountain :"if you can't fix it- then you just gotta stand it."
I sure appreciate everyone's support.
Thanks

Okay, here' what I know so far: If they can get someone to work the four hour shift on Saturday and Sunday, then I will work two full time shift's in the office, one four hour shift and then on Saturday and Sunday I would check for eight hour's each day. If he can't find someone for the office on the seekend, he will have to start all over [he said] trying to figure out schedule's. If it work's out the first way then I will get to keep my pay.
Also we have to take a course on 'the new way to work in the office' for which we will be tested. If we are not fast enough we will be out anyway.
The head office guy keep's saying they want us to think like McDonald's employees: step 1, step two, step three. Don't ask me, I just work here.
Anyway, so far so good I guess.

Why is it that Wal-Mart (among other major department stores) and brains are almost mutually exclusive concepts? Close to half of my visits to the neighborhood K-Mart result in the cashier coming up against something way over his/her head and reflexively picking up the nearby phone. After some interminable period, either someone comes along with a key or a code to enter into the register, or someone provides a solution over the phone, and you manage to pay for your stuff and get going. Usually fuming over the fact that the telephone was supposed to be a communication device, not a replacement for one's mind.

I'm not sure just who it was at K-Mart who decided that it was better to hire ten people with phones and one with a brain that to hire ten with brains. And I keep wondering what will happen if, one of these days, no one answers the phone.

Well Dave it seem's as if they are going to a lot of trouble to teach us how not to think. Will, I be able to turn it off when I get home, or will I have to phone someone and ask them what I should have for dinner and what I should do after that?

Pammy, don't feel bad. Deconstructing jobs is all the trend nowadays. It makes it really easy for them to swap folks from one site to another and it makes it much easier for the managers. Instead of having to deal with people, they're dealing with "production"

Hope it works for you and that you get to keep what you've earned. My fingers are crossed.
