How has Janis been lost in media? or billboard charts? There are so many of my friends and fam that see or hear Janis . i dont understand why Janis is not on the top 10 with a bullet. Is the rest of the country so into rap and being drilled into thinking that music doesent exist anymore? Poetry , words / meaning ? i dont understand why or how Janis is not in and on everyones mind. musicaly. i know sometimes im preaching the the choir. but how can i help ? convey the message and the song? the mellodies always go on . what can i do? the only thing options ive come up with is to take anyone and everyone to any concerts or events that Janis is playing at . any othere suggestions ? Please i am open to help people other than me understand what Janis has done for me in my life . How can i help giving Janis music and feelings , is the question.

Mike I believe Janis has chosen the indepenedent route. This obviously means it's harder to knock on doors and get heard, but on the other hand she has full choice in the material she releases (or so I presume).
The fact that Janis is so hands on with her output just has to be a good thing on the one hand given the quality of what she has produced in recent years. However, it does mean we fans need to do more legwork to get her heard, such as taking people to shows, emailing radio stations (as Manchester Anne and others did so successfully beofre the last UK tour etc)
I understand where your sentiments are coming from Mike, and I'm sure many of us agree wholeheartedly.
Hope you are well tonight my friend
Hugs

its hard being green and i understand . i thought it was me that didnt understand for a while Thanks for the heads up
Funny you mentioned being green. Janis did a song about that last night. The gals told me the title and that I could find it on iTunes. Of course I can't remember it now...
Now, that sounded intelligent, didn't it?

Would that be "Married In London"?
Janis may not be a regular on "Entertainment Tonight" and the like, but she also is not forced to go through the celebrity machine process which increasingly includes things like "wardrobe malfunctions", the occasional "accidental" racist comment to grab a headline, and of course, at least one stay in rehab.
So Janis, I applaud you for your integrity and I think you know well what it has spared you. Mind, if you ever want to beat up Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan while abundant paparazzi are nearby, I will post your bail.

As an avid chart watcher, I've been waiting for Janis to crack the charts once again. It would her extend her mark in music history if she did considering her longevity. Unfortunately, today's radio stations are oriented to a different age and style. When was the last time you heard a new song on a contemporary radio station by Bonnie Raitt, Tina Turner, Sting or even Elton John? We as fans have to continue to request what we want to hear even if the radio programmers and DJ's have never heard of the artists. We have to promote by word of mouth and support the tours. Even Barry Manilow who scored a #1 album earlier this year reached resistance in airplay, but his fans came through in a big way.

And I've been so wrapped up in the music I liked to listen to in recent years that I didn't know Janis was still going until wvrose brought me back down to earth with a bump...What a nice bump it was though.... :D It has driven me again to have a look along the row of CDs in my local record store to see who else I remembered and who's music I sat up for....ah, there's Albert Hammond, and Bruce Springsteen, and Melanie and Georgio Moroder, Cat Stevens.........nah, didn't care much for Dolly Parton. There's still so much out there. A whole wealth of good stuff which we should still be listening to as well, and boy was I pleasantly surprised when I looked on the Laptop the other day and found Catherine had installed the.........complete works of.........Queen :D :D (that's alright dear, I'll see you at home LATER!!!!)
A friend of mine in Minnesota went to see Tom Paxton Saturday night...I'd forgotten he was still around, too, and evidently playing small independent venues, similar to the route Janis has taken...he got a very warm welcome and sang a lot of his old songs, which are probably as pertinent to today's situations as they were back in the day.

I really love Tom Paxton, too. The Public Radio station where Dave and I used to work brought him here for a concert at the Hershey Theater -- what a sweet man. Sadly, that was two station managers ago, and the current manager (one big reason both of us left there) has dicovered a good way to suck up to the pretentious board members is to air and sponsor only classical music. (Never mind all the members, period, the station has lost because of it).
It's great that the older artists are still around. What puzzles me is how some of them -- like Jimmy Buffet and Bonnie Raitt, for instance -- still manage to play stadiums and attract huge numbers of fans, while others have more of a struggle. Jimmy Buffet, particularly, has continued to attract fans on the scale of what, say, the Grateful Dead did, while few other singer-songwriters have been able to. For somebody who doesn't generally get much ariplay, he still tops the charts with his albums sometimes, too. I guess having your own station on satellite radio doesn't hurt.

i like to think about it this way. people are basically medium. they watch medium TV, by meduim "art" spend big money for a lot of medium. People like Janis are rare, like diamonds , and so are her fans, not that there aren't a lot of us, just that we are rare...not medium...we won't even get into the well donespeace
